People are wanting to build their stock/stage 2 cars and it's the dumbest idea imaginable. The stock shortblock is more reliable.

1. Most of the piston choices out there will require engine rebuilds every 40-60k miles on street builds due to wear and tear. The ones that last longer, minus Cosworth, are barely any stronger than the stock pistons. Factory blocks are built to last a very long time, while built ones are more so viewed to be disposable.
2. You'd be spending extra money on a built motor when your stock motor would have been fine and lasted for a long time, assuming a good tune, good maintenance, and you're not making too much power.
3. Factory built motors are far more reliable and consistent than shop built ones. I say this from experience as I've had 4 (possibly 5, but that could have been a bad tune) engines that were poorly/shoddily built and failed with extremely low mileage. Even trusted names in the business (ie Cobb) are putting out motors that show that they have people doing work they have no business doing. And unfortunately many/most shops don't have warranties, and those that do seem to try to scoot you out of coverage by whatever means possible (another thing I found out the hard way, only one of those motors was rebuilt under warranty).

The funny thing is I believe a lot of this has to do with the tuning. I know a major subaru fanatic in the UK and he tells me the same thing happens with the 2.0, same piston # and everything when running stock tunes or parts without tuning for them. People have verified the stock tunes here in the US being dangerous.
I think the ringland/piston issue more likely relates to tuning/fuel issues.

That's a tricky situation. "Some" people blew there's up really quick. Some folks have had no trouble with them at all. I've spoken to several tuners about it over the years. Some of them have different theories on what works and what doesn't.
Bottom line... it's 2013 not 2006. It's not as big of an issue as it was back then.
Hell I know a dude that ran 10's in a 2.2L hybrid bugeye... but what would he know... his new car only has over 1000whp. LOL!
As for where to get tuned... I say GST.
what did you end up going with for heads or did I miss that? I keep going back and forth on what I'm gonna do. I think I'll be doing a complete EJ255 or EJ257 long block and just use the cosworth cam position set up.
