That's a tricky situation. "Some" people blew there's up really quick. Some folks have had no trouble with them at all. I've spoken to several tuners about it over the years. Some of them have different theories on what works and what doesn't.
Bottom line... it's 2013 not 2006. It's not as big of an issue as it was back then.
Hell I know a dude that ran 10's in a 2.2L hybrid bugeye... but what would he know... his new car only has over 1000whp. LOL!
As for where to get tuned... I say GST.
what did you end up going with for heads or did I miss that? I keep going back and forth on what I'm gonna do. I think I'll be doing a complete EJ255 or EJ257 long block and just use the cosworth cam position set up.

i matched the heads and went with a .027'' cometic gasket. the pistons also went in professionally from my local mechanic. they were manley drop-ins with eagle rods. just waiting on a turbo inlet since i snapped one of the nipples.
gst was my main go to guy. but long story short i called a few weeks prior to see if they could do the swap with the parts i wanted and they denied my build. due to piston brand

On another note are your heads purchaced? Is there any reason why you would not consider going with a non AVCS 2.5 head?
I dont know the quality but I have seen these
Graveyard Motorsports Spec Rebuild Cylinder Head – EJ257 DOHC
I think he had to go with the thicker head gasket to lower CR on the hybrid. The OEM HG would not suit his application.

The OEM gaskets are the strongest ones available. They are more durable than either Cometic or Cosworth. My comment was that Cometic made the worst of the bunch, not realizing that it seems the engine has already been put together with it. There are other, better, ways to reduce CR, though personally I greatly preferred the higher CR my hybrid had than my current STI long block. I kick myself for not getting 8.9-9.2:1 pistons last time I had to built my engine because I didn't expect the difference to be so drastic. Also the CR is not the only thing about hybrids that give them an increased risk of detonation.
gaskets play a huge roll with this build brfatal. and standard gasket are not the "strongest" either.. we are talking about quality and standard oem gaskets do not provide that. the car is fully built and i expect to run higher booost then oem.. one step at a time but im certain what really matters is a professional tune.

See my build in my garage in my profile. It's a bit more advanced than yours will be and currently running 24 psi. I've run a lot of motors, and the factory gaskets have never failed me, even after sitting while overheating without realizing it with the car running for +20 minutes with the temperature needle pinned as far in the red as it could go.

Most experienced Subaru engine builders will disagree with you on what the strongest is.
