Just do it yourself if you have the know how.It will cost you 1/3 the price of paying to have it done.The only tricky part is doin the plugs for the first time.Check here for some good info http://www.scoobymods.com/.

I got mine done at Speed Element/MPJ in Fremont.

 

plugs are simple enough, just takes awhile, it's pretty cramped in there even with the windshield fluid and battery out. Other than that, all the other fluids should be a breeze.

 

60K is what the factory terms a "major service" so if you are going to DIY- make sure you've got the long checklist and be very thorough.

And if you are going to pay someone else, even an independant, be ready to pay some major bucks- I think dealerships charge somewhere in the $700-$1000 range if I recall correctly, (can't find my old invoice but my stack of receipts is getting pretty huge as one might imagine)

 

I got mine done at AutoHQ in Redwood city. Well, I got the coolant, air filter, tanny/rear diff fluid (with Mobil1 w/ GM synchromesh), and plugs done. They also filled up my fluids and rotated my tires. They also seemed to have tightened everything up and the car feels great. I paid a fair price for everything that was done. They even took it out for a test run and did some basic datalogging, and I realized my IDCs were high, and that I'm not hitting full boost in 1-3rd gears. I was happy. Oh, BTW, they did everything for me in 2 hrs!

Had mine done at AutoHQ too. For reference, total cost was about $500. For these major services, unless you're a good mechanic yourself, I'd say it's worth it to have a professional look over your car. For example, my car had a timing belt pulley seizing up...had I done the service myself I probably wouldn't have caught it and now I'd be in major hurt because the pulley would have seized, timing belt snap, etc.

So yes, you can save money doing it yourself, but having a professional get intimate with your car could save you money in the long run should there be any problems you're not aware of.
