We still keep them in the lab, testing on them everyday. The TVs are on for 8-10 hours per day, 5 days a week! They are here until they die out.

Only two companies make the lcd for every brand out, and now only two for a plasma now that Fujitsu does not make the panels anymore. The thing that makes the tv look good is the processor that is running you picture.
hahaha this coming from the guy who believes $100 HDMI cables provide a better picture than a $3 HDMI cable off amazon.

Hey Gagan, do you have a good recommendation for a cheap 42-50inch plasma? My friend is looking into a new TV and he's thinking about getting the Samsung PN50A550. His budget is no more than 1,600.

Oh, and what's your take on 1080p vs 720p debate? Is it worth it?

if you have a PS3, 1080p is mandatory...

720p if you only watch fox, abc and espn...

1080p is only necessary if you have something that actually broadcasts in 1080p.. ie xbox360, ps3, bluray player, computer.

No tv service is capable of broadcasting 1080p to you currently. Well at least dish and comcast can't. (i believe they are 480i?)

If you have a screen that is 32" chances are you won't see a big difference between 720p and 1080p if any at all.. unless you are hooked up to a computer and will be reading text on it.

and not to mention comcast/dish compress their video so they may fit more hd channels on the same pipeline thus not giving you true HD.

The Sony was 27" and the Samsung was 32" if I remember correctly from walking around the show.

Check the Frys ads each day over the next week.

You'll find deals on 42" PZ80s and PZ85s. Should be right about $1100-$1300. These are 1080p models with great contrast. My Cousin has last years 50pz750, and it's a very good TV.

Actually you guys are wrong. Being in the electronics business I've done a lot of testing and usage of other ****. A ****ty hdmi cable can definitely make a difference. If you disagree you must have a pretty limited experience. I'm not saying you need to buy a 100 dollar cable, but some of the cheap ones do affect quality adversely.

If you asked my 2 years ago I'd have said save the money, but today, just go for the 1080p. With the right sources (most TV HD channels, bluray) you'll be extracting the best you can with the 1080p native panel.

Most HD channels, with the exception of about 3-5, are 1080i. Getting a 1080P set is definitely worth it, and with the prices so low right now, no reason to get a 720p display unless it's a projector or something.
