CHP been using lasers for a while now... not just recently.
this might not be the best way to help the budget issues, but it is helping. read on the paper that CHP made 600 some odd traffic stops in san francisco over a 3 day period and issued over 450 tickets, along with several felony arrests. if they do this everywhere on a consistent basis, that will generate a lot of money for the state.
either way, speed on 280 is pretty fast, you can go 80-85mph in the fast lane, and every few seconds, you get some bucket looking car with bumpers nearly falling off tailing you 3 inches off your tailpipe.

cant exactly blame them for cracking down on 280. on the stretch from san jo to SF the average speed in the fast lane seems to be higher than most race circuits. (not that i dont try to set personal best records every time i drive that myself though)
