speeders/racers, non-imports
speeders/racers, non-imports
is it just me or have any one else noticed more people speeding/racing, and they aren't import cars. sometimes even vans/trucks.
[rant on]
tonight while on my way home on the H1 a dodge ram went flying by me, only to be followed a few seconds later by an old cadillac.
they must have been going at least 70+ if not over 80, can't really tell but they went by me pretty fast, the cadillac even crossed 3 lanes right behind a van, barely missing them.
i know the import community gets a lot of heat on street racing, just i hate it that all imports get a bad rep because of a few. especially when it's not just imports that are doing these stupid and careless acts.
sorry, just wanted to rant a bit and find out if i'm the only one seeing these kinds of things.

i feel your pain
2 nights ago- drivin da sti...
cruise control @ 56 mph. H1 west- i counted 30 cars ripping by me. you name it vans, cars, trucks, delivery vehicles. i counted only 5 imports(tricked out) speeding by me, but at a safe pace-not light speed. i go home and tell my fiance and she laughs, "u sure it wasn't you speeding by everyone else?"(i know she was jus tryin to irritate me) i was like
then disgusted by the hipocrisy some of our general public who do drive. the law will clearly state that racing is not neccesarily "organized". it can be some 37 year old mom deciding she wants to get in front of a car doing 80mph to do so-in turn getting into a game of shopping 4 lanes while beating that car next to her. sometimes i wish we could have the same goodies on our cars like spyhunter.

The sad but true aspect of our society is that ANYONE speeding will reflect badly on the import scene. Be it from movies to what the general communities image of what a "racer" is, it's unfortunate that the burden of reponsibility will always fall back on us.
Can WE do anything about that, I honestly don't know. Not speeding and driving defensively for one, but we have so much idiots in the import scene that the 1 person in 20 who does drive like *** will help to stereotype the other 19. And yes, I do see "regular" vehicles speeding and driving more erratically then import vehicles.

Ya it stinks. I can't even begin to count the number of time I was cruising in the inside lane going 60 only to have bone stock "mom cars" flying by me swerving in and out of traffic.
The thing that scares the crap out of me the most is SUVs doing that too close to me. YOU may have a death wish, but I don't.
Of course the guys with big wings get the bad rep

Last night on my way home, a Corvette pulls up next to me and starts revving. I just ignore him, roll up to the stoplight and stop behind an accord dropped with an aftermarket exhaust, who was waiting at the light. The Vette, gets to the stop light next to the Accord and starts revving again. Basically light turns green, both cars leave at a slow speed, then as the Accord start to pick up some speed, the Vette just nails it gets a good lead on the Accord. Only to have to slow down again and get stuck behind other cars at the next stop light. Light turns green, and cars are going the vette is weaving in out of the lanes just to get in front of the cars. When I finally get to the stoplight I turn at to get home. I look to see where the Vette is, and he is about 2-3 cars in front of me.
It's not just imports that are speeding, racing, and driving recklessly. Any car can be driven in that that manner. But who gets the blame?, it’s the import cars… go figure…
And lastly, the guy was doing all that weaving, and accelerating only to get 3 car lengths of a lead and be stuck at a stoplight. LOL

i hate when people in junkers weave in and out of traffic. scares the hell out of me, espicially when they can't apparently never check their blind spots

Here is a story similar to WRX-Zeros. My daily work drive to town takes about a little over an hour. In Laie (25mph speed limit) a car (domestic beater) comes bearing down on me. Dunno about the legality of it, but I'm a "five-over" driver and I'm doing 30 mph. Anyways, he can't do anything as there is a lot of oncoming traffic. In Punaluu, I notice that there is a cop following us now, I joke to my wife that he's panicking as he is not wearing his seat belt, I'm hoping he gets pulled-over. He signals left and pulls off the road. The cop is not satisfied with my "five-over" (40) and he passes me and is gone. About 15 minutes later in Kualoa the domestic beater is once again bearing down on me after passing 3 cars (he is now wearing his seatbelt), he passes me and is gone. I reach traffic at Temple Valley and there he is, stuck in traffic...only four cars ahead of me
. That guy must have passed a lot of cars during his drive. It's just not worth all that drama!

Doing around 60 coming from the airport towards Pearl Harbor, a 96 explorer came speeding around me, & barely cut me off only to lock the brakes up at the turn in to PSD (shortcut for me, 'cause I live back that way). Once we hit the light by the Exchange, I was still right beside him....pathetic
yeai hear ya one that one.. especially if they dont have any insurance.

yep. I see regular joes driving like asses every day. A nice car with some visual mods done to it speeding by is easier to remember than the old lady in the Camry who didn't check her blind spot, merged into your lane, and nearly ran you off the road.
When it comes time for ppl to think about bad/dangerous drivers on the road, especially with all the negative publicity modified imports have been getting in recent years, the general public is quick to point the finger when they remember the Integra that went speeding past them with the Larry's custom exhaust special. It's easy to forget that Joe Blow was also doing 80 in his nice quiet Lexus when he went speeding past and cut you off the other day.
If anything, I drive even safer now than before because I know ppl are watching.

Another thing to note is that a WRX (or STi) is far more capable at 80 mph than a mini-van. I'll bet dollars to donuts that if a cop clocks a WRX and minivan (or SUV, old Caddy etc.) both going at the same speed in excess of the speed limit, the WRX will get pulled over.
