New Honda Type-R Hot Hatch - just set a 7:50 Nurburgring time - that's pretty fast (and it's not even AWD).

From what I've read, Honda would need to crash test that hatch as it is not currently offered here and is not substantially similar to any of the other cars they offer in our market.

Once again "safety" is put above common good. They try to protect us from ourselves, rather than let us have access to cars that are available all over the rest of the world. Its the same with "smog" laws. They keep the best cars away because the companies won't pay the extortion the states/feds want to let the car in...even if its a superior car in millage/smog/build.

I will happily pay a fee and sign whatever waver necessary in exchange for ability to import and drive whatever I damn well please. I have no issues being accountable for my own bad lucks or simply running out of skill. 'Muricans seem okay with government defining required "safety"...back up cameras, traction control, laser guided this and that my ***. Put down that cell phone and Big Mack and pay damn attention. /GetsOffSoapBox

Their concern is that you might hit another car/person/cow and the cause would be attributable to them letting this nefarious car into the country. Liability concerns at their finest! CYA

Exactly why I couldn't care if it could do the ring in 7.5 seconds...its not what these cars are in the market for. Sure they are fast as eff, but snow performance is a biggy.

Maybe we should wait and see if a full production model can repeat that time.

...aaannnddd Subaru just decided to go full Toyota, discontinue the STi, and focus even further of on generic-bland-grocery-getter vehicle that will boost their bottom line and disappoint enthusiasts. You never go full Toyota.
