Is the 2016 Ford RS, and Golf R really the new Evo?
The numbers of the new Ford RS and Golf R are impressive. but can they really become the new competition of the STi, as the Evo ends production this year?

The STi will likely have a hard time keeping up with the Focus RS what with the torque vectoring AWD and the considerable bump in HP/torque. Should make for a damn interesting fight!

Golf R will probably be too heavy and too "German" again (not sure how else to say it). The article mentions it will weight at least 250 lbs more than GTI. Personally, I always preferred normal GTIs with 6spd and nothing else.
Focus RS on the other hand...now that should be a tasty morsel. I am actually hoping it will be better (or even embarrass) STi, so Subaru can finally stop rehashing 10 year old tech because it is has been "good enough".
Lastly, is it me, or it the R's wheels way too big? Almost "Hot Wheels" like?

It is a go.

From the article, the AWD system sounds exactly the same as how the Evo's AWD system worked with active differentials.

My STI is about to turn 7, and that RS is the first practical replacement i have seen for it. Will certainly be going for a test drive when it comes here

They will most likely just give up and keep on making what they sell most out here like Outbacks, and etc, in the grand scheme of things - Subaru isn't close to the size of the other car manufacturers.
Maybe the new cars will re-awaken the racing spirit within Toyota and Honda, and we'll see a new GT4 and an AWD Type-R Civic in the future. And maybe Mazda will release an AWD model if the RS does well and becomes the "car" to beat..
Pretty sure the RS will rape the 2015 STI's lap time in the Nurburgring..
