2012 SH FXT planned turbo upgrade advice needed
Hey folks,
I was thinking/planning to upgrade my FXT eventually (10kmi for now) after my warranty expires.
I was initially thinking of trying to get to ~250whp and not have to do too much... yeah, it's a 4eat.
I was thinking VF39, STi tmic...
Questions are, will I need more or any other supporting mods to accompany? Should I use a cobb ap ots map or should I get it tuned? I want it to be safe, and I'm not so sure ots maps are safe for the life of the car. Would there even be an ots map useable for a vf39 on a FXT? Do I need a specific year STi tmic?
Thanks in advance for your input!

vf39 wont fit on a 12 FXT, my friend has one stage 2 which should be around 250-ish whp. stage 2 consist of an aftermarket downpipe and a catback exhaust system with a cobb accessport or open source stage 2 tune.

Although I haven't dyno'd my FXT, I'm running "stage 2" protune w/Cobb catted dp, spt cb and Cobb SF. It feels absolutely amazing. Day and night difference from my catted dp/spt cb Cobb OTS map. It is extremely smooth and pleasant to drive.
And yes, like apetron said, come over and visit sf.org!

Thanks, I've checked out subaruforester.org before... that site is dead, thought I'd try here first... I honestly don't have the time to sift through all the member journals there, most are like 100 pages of jibber jabber.
I know how to upgrade... I was mainly looking for advice on an easy upgrade, where I won't need anything other than a turbo and a tmic and tune. I guess I'll need a dp as well though, but don't mind using the stock DP if possible. I'm wondering if I need to change out my bpv, anything else, if trying to swap to a VF52 and STi tmic?
I already have a spt, don't like the q300, and in fact, even the spt is a bit loud for my taste (especially on a 4eat).
I just can't stand the td04, that flutter noise kills me too. It sounds like it's going somewhere, but it's not.
I've already done suspension, brakes, lighting, wheels, and tints... just need a VF52, tmic, ap, I guess.
Can I run a VF52 using my stock tmic or would I need to upgrade to a STi tmic? I recently saw an '09 STi tmic fs, but would have no idea if it holds pressure... buying used tmics scare me, you never know what you're going to get.
Maybe I'll ask the MN Kid guy, cause he has a VF52... The last thing I want on my fxt is a 20g. My tuner would scream probably if I gave him a vf52 and 1,000cc injectors and a ebcs. ha.
I don't want to have to get a fuel pump, new injectors, or a ebcs or bcs... I don't want to remove snorkus, I don't want to delete the smog pump, I don't want a BOV, I don't need a light crank pulley. I've been there and done that... I guess I'm really looking for an easy & safe (don't really want to run over 85% idc) upgrade...I don't need crazy boost. Sounds like VF52 it will have to be. Thanks everyone for your input so far.

plus it has all the proper information you want.
it has a lot of VF52 discussions specifically for your vehicle and lots of helpful advice and people to answer questions for the SH
even if you keyword search "VF52" over there you'll get a ton of answers
Superacerc and nate know A LOT. they can answer anything for you.

Rescuer, thanks.
I didn't mean anything negative by my comment regarding the forester site, my apologies if that came off insulting in any way. There just seems to be a lot more traffic here.
I see your posts too, they are quite informative. You, superarc, and nate look like you're great contributors.
I spent a couple hours lurking on that site and found a lot of great info. I'll try to post some questions there.
Basically, all I want is about stock STi power.
I'd like to keep the stock dp, intake, injectors, fuel pump, inlet, etc.
Does anyone know if there's a specific year/type STi tmic I'll need to use with the VF52 that will bolt right up? I'm pretty sure I could get away with using my stock tmic, but I'd guess that a matching STi tmic would do some good.
I want to be able to pass CA smog with no changes required.

There is still some traffic on SF.org you just need to post or search and you will find your answers..and yes if you do a vf52 you will be fine with smog and everything. you will just have to switch back to your stock dp for smog but with all other components you'll be fine.
I have an 05 fxt with vf39, sti intercooler, upgraded fuel pump and DP. When i go to smog ill just put my stock dp on and it will pass fine.
