2009 Gears into a 2002 transmission
jeez really? damn I forgot about the rear end/driveshaft, I was just figuring the 3K for a used trans, I guess if you find a 06-07 your good with the stock rear end correct? well thats a toss up, would depend on how much you can get the gears/rebuild for. This is important for me since Im planning a swap into my RS, though since I need a motor too it would be worth it for me to find a totaled 04-05 for around 10K and just gut it. Damn I shouldnt have sold my STi

Solution to problem, do like I did and have a wicked STi for weekends, and a GC as DD. It works well unless you're into always rolling around in a status symbol (which I have issues with, mmmmmm CLS55 AMG).

Let us know when you decide to join Huck and buy a new STi.

No one is forcing you to own a C6Z. Pooor Krinkov, life is rough owning a C6Z, and an Impreza coupe.

Also, its not just gears that get replaced. Certain critical components must be used to get the new gearset to work wih the older cases. All parts are FHI/OEM and no hack modifications are done.
I'm not trying to be secretive, but we've spent a lot of time compiling the correct parts to make this work.
Ill see if some of my customers would like to comment on their trannies.

so it is pretty well priced to do the 2009 gears. It has already been done. I wouldn't say it makes it much stronger. It's more about the ratio complementing the displacement of the 2.5 turbo application. The verdict is, if you are gonna drive aggresively and break the 320ishWHP mark, the best thing to do is to do a PPG synchro dog box 1-4 straight cut and 5 helical for about the same price as a 6 sp swap. This will strengthen up the 5 speed. You can do a full dog box also which will be clutchless and sans synchros but that is really more recommned for race only and will also run you a few more thousand. Thanks for breakin it down paul. I'll leave the price quoting to him as im sure prices and services are subject to change.

who would the 2009 gear option be especially good for?
- any of the 2.5 motor swap guys with up to low 300's peak WHP.
- any pre '09 WRX with the EJ25
who would not be an ideal candidate for the 2009 gearset?
-any wrx higher than low 300'sWHP (bigger than a tuned 18G on 91)
-any WRX running a big turbo (ATP 3076 etc. etc.)
-any WRX which will be experiencing a lot of hard launching, banging gears.
