5 builders and more tuners than I care to count. I've had 3 engines go bad within 1,200 miles. Aside from my original (oil pump failure) the next longest lasting was 17k miles, before it was taken out by Clark Turner. Most of the engines died because they were poorly put together and the specs used were awful. My last engine was the 1st one to ever be warrantied (even though all except one of the previous builders told me they had warranties) and it's being built now. I've had my car in my possession for ~3 months of the last year and a half.
WTF? That sucks dude.

I never said the majority... don't think anyways. I suppose it's possible.

I'd be interested in who brfatal is - either a troll, or someone who doesn't have the driving skills to keep it in the performance envelope. I find it difficult to believe that 8 motors are ALL the fault of the builders or tuners, without having ANY blame for instructing them to cut corners or spec the cheaper parts to save money...

...or perhaps it's my happy Forester with 260,000 miles (and climbing) that starts up and drives me wherever I need to go every day.

You can probably add both SLEEPERWRX (205K) and mine (191K) to that list.

Original engine, transmission, clutch & turbo.

Out of curiosity, what does my driving skill have to do with engines letting go because the valve lash was set wrong, pistons given absurd clearances, torque specs, and misfires that started on the way home from getting tuned? So it was me all along?

So what I'm gathering from everyone is that a fair price for my 03 WRX is $2000 to $2500?

The long build up was worth it.

With a blown motor... You might be able to get more since it's just a block and the rest of the stuff is still there. I'd start at $4 and see what kind of offers you get. But yeah I'd expect it will be a tough sell and you'll get a lot of crazy offers... like $1000. I wouldn't take less than $2-2500.
