For me at around 100k, my radiator popped the top, turbo started making noises, 4th gear synchro started sticking, clutch needed replacement, and there's more I'm forgetting
Oh yeah valve cover gaskets too

Hi all,
Took my 03 WRX sedan to GST to get a leak down test as I had a misfire on cylinder #1. The news was not good. So I need to rebuild the engine or sell the car. I've already messaged Mike to give me a ball park figure on how much it would cost to rebuild the engine to stock levels. However if I decided to sell I wanted to know what would be a fair price for the car. The car has 197K on it. Just looking to get an idea.
Thanks!

I'm aware of that, and that 100k is taking into account how people generally treat the car, though it's not always a reliable litmus test for car reliability as many well treated cars are also breaking (my car's problems started at 50-60k for example). This is just an observation I've made having been around for a decade with working relations with many shops and having worked in a Subaru service dept.

Mine is at 213k. Original motor. Original trans. And I don't drive like a grandma.
I would say the shear number of cars out there with 150-250k on them (wrx) says enough about their durability. It's the driver that is the problem most of the time. Things do break but it's like that with any car.

Some break. That's the breaks. Most do not.... not without driver/owner error.

And there are some 07s that have ringland failures at 10k miles. Its driver + luck. Generally speaking though, cars over 100k miles and nearing 200k miles need a whole lotta love to make them dependable.
I would price it close to 2k for the car. I think I remember a bugeye selling here last year for 2k that was missing a turbo and intercooler. Might have been a track car though.

But hell... not including the work I just did on my car I didn't HAVE to do much of anything as far as breakage repairs. Just maintenance.
This recent round was really just fixing a blown cat. Totally normal.
My car has been great. She's getting old now. If I keep it or if someone buys it my recommendation is to start planning on a new motor. It's only a matter of time. It's not gonna last forever. But right now I go outside. I turn the key. I drive to work. Every day. What more could I want?

That's the truth for ANY car. Not just a subaru.

My old wrx had 130k miles and only needed a clutch, radiator and power steering pump. My FXT on the other hand needs a new tranny, rear end and motor at 170k. I wasnt the first owner of either car so cant say if it was based on driving or being unlucky.

I'm stuck in this limbo right now... sell it and buy a bigger car or keep it and have mike build me a motor and toss my 18g in. Ug.
