Question 2003 WRX finally dies

Hi all,

Took my 03 WRX sedan to GST to get a leak down test as I had a misfire on cylinder #1. The news was not good. So I need to rebuild the engine or sell the car. I've already messaged Mike to give me a ball park figure on how much it would cost to rebuild the engine to stock levels. However if I decided to sell I wanted to know what would be a fair price for the car. The car has 197K on it. Just looking to get an idea.

Thanks!

It's been great up until last weekend. I now need to see how much it would cost to keep this running, decide if the cost to get it running is worth it or sell it and find a commuter. Wanted to keep the miles low on my BRZ so I could get a good price for it when the Sti variant comes out. Plus the BRZ doesn't work for my carpool when there are more than myself and one other person.

I had wanted to do a rebuild next year and I was looking at the LIC B1.5 short block. Still gotta figure out what I want to do. I was hoping to use my tax return to pay down more of my mortgage but maybe it's time to go for broke and rebuild engine and transmission.

Just wanted to see if anyone knew what a fair price would be. Did a google search and it looks like some people recently have sold an 03 WRX with no running engine for around $4K, but they had only about 150K on their car.

Might just get the car towed home and let it sit in the garage for a while.

$4k for a bugeye without an engine? I was offered $3k tops for a bugeye with 90k miles and a quite a few mods (understatement) 4 1/2 years ago.

Way over priced at $4k.

That's what I figured. Which is why I posed my question regarding what is a fair price. Just trying to get some numbers so I can make an informed decision.

kbb lists it 5k in fair condition according to mileage. its a 5mt im guessing? engines cost about 3k on average.

At that mileage its almost guaranteed the heads will be shot and tranny is going to need a rebuild as well.

Consider yourself lucky if you made it that far without significant issues. Turbo Subarus tend to start falling apart at around 100k.

False!! Plenty of hard working subarus still running strong. 100k is just a number, its how the car was treated.
