You would hope so but it is not the case all the time sometimes things happen that change plans so we should all play nice....

I'll bite on this one though....

Is the turbo you want to go on the stock motor setup or the new one?

If the new one what are the spec's of the motor (other than displacement) such as,

Compression ratio
cam profile

With the head work that has been done has the redline been extended, if so to what?

Would help folks give more informed advice.

well, i appreciate some of the info you guys are giving, and those who think i am bsing, ill see you at the track event in march. anyways, i was trying to decide whether or not to use a gt30 or gt35. i was also considering one of the greddy turbos from atp. and by the way, my car has dynoed 300whp on 16lb of boost on the pe1820, check out http://www.blacktrax.net/projects.html

Just an fyi but that link states 17psi and shows a dyno sheet that if was the stock bottom end on pump gas then is way too lean.

Just my observation.

Anyway though how about the info on the cams and the compression should help someone make a better suggestion on the turbo?

Did not know ATP were doing Greddy unit always thought them to be a Garrett house...

As long as we are asking questions about turbo's....has anyone ever heard of running a twin turbo setup on a WRX? If not, then why wouldn't this application work on the WRX engine? Or is it just not cost effective, or reasonable. Sorry, it just sort of jumped into my mind when people were talking about turbo lag from a big turbo. I thought, why not a smaller turbo for lower rpm and a medium turbo for midrange to high rpm. TIA

as far as i know, i am not running lean. i would have to check with Bill on that cause he does all the tuning, but i think the injectors are pushing something like 80-85% right now.

also, i thought that atp did both greddy and garrett, but i could be mistaken, that is y i posted for information, not to get ragged on and told i am lying

tk5dan: ya, aki is a cool guy. some people dont like him, but he stands by his work, and always fixes anything that goes wrong. plus, there prices are very competetive. i have asked around for quotes, and theres are by far the best. they only charged around 2k for the gears and the tranny install, where as the best i was able to find was like 2600.

thanks for all the info guys

kindersplus: i forgot to mention, i think the twin turbo setup is jdm. i am not sure if u want to use it, but i think it is a legacy motor. i know where u can get one installed for like 3-4k for the motor and installation if you want.

lol sry to hijack this thread with my questions but i had one more. Does that install for the gears include the whole gears and the kit that rallispec sells so that you get the right speedo gear and all other neccessary hardware. I know MPJ charges $2600 but theirs is for a complete install with everything needed to work 100% perfectly, also i am pretty sure they get their gearsets from rallispec.

Well, after using the nifty search tool -yes I am lazy and didn't want to do it at first- I basically read that running a twin turbo setup on the ej20 isn't really a good idea since there are aftermarket turbo's out there that can produce 600hp+ engines with a single turbo. Running a twin turbo setup is also twice the chance of breakage and problems.

Some people were saying that twin turbo's are better suited for large displacement engines, and that the flat four ej20 makes enough bottom end power on its own to negate most of the benefits that a twin turbo setup would bring. Ok I am done, just thought I would answer my own question in case anyone else was wondering ;-)

I never ragged on you mate just trying to help answer your questions but to do so may need a little more info specific to your setup which I have asked for.

Something to note, the %'s you quoted mean nothing regarding to running lean. If that chart was on 91 octane running a PE1820 on pump gas at 17psi on a stock engine it looks to me as being lean (my opinion, nothing more nothing less).

Regarding the tranny stuff, yes we sell the RA gearset for $2600 installed which includes all parts and labor. We do not just replace the gears for that but all bearings, synchros and so on and then offer warranty on the work (We have trannies prebuilt also so it eases your down time)

Mike what do you consider safe AFR on the stock US 2.0? I see 11.5--->12 in that graph if my eyes aren't deceiving me.

I'm moving this to the Aftermarket turbo forum for obvious reasons.

Me personally, I try not to ever go over 11.2:1 on 91 octane and always dip into the 10.X:1 nearing redline (6700rpm ish)

I'm not a tuner but those seem to have worked reasonably well on the few cars I have tinkered with.
