Potency of turbo?

I am still contimplating turboing my 2002 RS and was wondering how potent the idea is to the life of my engine. I drive about 35,000 miles a year and I would like the turbo to be reliable without damaging to engine with max boost @ 5psi. Is running a turbo kit at 5psi comparable to running a nitrous kit w/ a 55 shot constantly?

Is it just me or do we get these questions a lot??
As with any engine, if cylinder pressures are higher, wear is higher. 5lbs WILL wear an engine out sooner than leaving it NA. However the extent of the extra wear won't be significant.
IF you start running a highly boosted RS then you'll wear out sooner.
Something everyone needs to consider: Spending this kind of money for most of us is a commitment to our cars. It's money we'll never get back. In some cases, bringing the car back to stock NA might not be achievable without spending a lot more money. If you plan on trading your car in within two years, DON'T DO IT. If not and you have enough money in reserve for an extra engine and/or transmission, then go for it. The reason I say that is that once you do this the warrantee is gone. So if you can't afford the breakage that could happen with the turbo RS, DON'T DO IT.
Will the car be reliable? Sure, if it's tuned right and not beaten on a daily basis.
Will the car wear out sooner? Sure, the harder you drive it the more wear it'll have. The longer you keep the RPM's off idle, the shorter the life of the engine. "As mean piston speed increases, cylinder wear increases GREATER than linearly"

All good points. The more power you make from your engine, the sooner it wears out. (That's the real reason all those Hondas and Toyotas lasted forever- they just weren't putting any stress on their engines

Great points, fellas. I think we should have a sticky post that explains all of the risks and ordinary costs and parts associated with turboing a 2.5 and 2.2L.
One more thing, more speed puts more wear on the rest of your car too. I go through tires, plugs, wires, brakes, rotors, and other "forgotten" accessories much quicker than before my car was turboed. More speed most definitely means faster wear. But damn it's fun.
