RU talking cheapest or a decent job? You can get them very cheaply from a variety of outlets. I'd have to search to find names though. You can save even more if you re-use the gasket ($75ish) that surrounds the window although I have heard that it may be prone to leaking if you re-use it.

You can pay anything from $150 (allegedly) to over $800. My last couple of windshields have been from Safelite Autoglass. Total with glass, gasket and labour was $350.

Any problem with the replacement so far? They dont scratch up anything during installation, do they?

That's called the Third Visor. I would ask them to confirm they have that before the installation. That is what I m doing.

I just had mine done for $150 in san jose at Best Auto Glass (408)392-9032. They replaced the gasket but not with an OEM one. (If i wanted OEM, it would have been an extra $75)

My windshield isn't OEM but it does have the tinted area behind the rear view mirror. The tint however, is that generic blue one that extends all the way across the whole windshield.

I called other shops and they quoted me around $300 for the same (generic brand) type of windshield.

Hey guys,
I was fixing the rattle in my car by removing the dash vent/vin plate panel and putting in back in and cracked my windshield. I could try to have it repaired since it is a spider crack but I'd like to get it replaced if I could. Do you guys know what the impact to insurance is if I get it replaced through them? My deductible is $500. thanks!
Benny

Argh!!! I just have to rant. I have Mercury Insurance and never made a claim with them but just tried to ask the basic question of do they waive the deductible for windshield repair and my agent didn't know, their claims dept didn't know and I'd have to wait for an adjuster to call me. It's so retarded given that most if not all insurance companies do that so they don't have to pay for the windshield to be replaced. Anyhow, just goes to show that there are stupid people in this world who don't have the knowledge or authority to do anything.

Turns out that Mercury insurance doesn't waive the deductible for Windshield repair and I called a glass shop and they can't repair cracks bigger than 1/2" so I'm gonna have to replace it sooner or later. Anybody else in for a windshield group buy? $150 is cheap I'll admit but looks like others need it too so let's get it for even less!

Cool, we've got two in for the group buy! I'll call around tomorrow and see what rates we can get depending on how many people reply back tonight. I'm not picky on the type of windshield but do want something with quality at a decent price. Lower than $150 is the target.

xq, thank you. Quality in workmanship/installation is probably the key as well.

Here is a link that might be somewhat helpful:

Haven't noticed any leakeage or noise yet. I was in tahoe this weekend too. I watched them install the whole thing too. Then again, I'm no expert in windshield installations but I didn't notice anything shady.

They offer lifetime warranty on thier labor, not the windshield of course.
