Contemplating '02 RS @ Auction
My buddy is friends with a dealer who will go to the Florida Auto Auction of Orlando for me and in the listings there is a white '02 RS w/11,000 miles on it. Carfax says one owner, Florida car with no red flags.
Im probably going to be able to pick it up for $11,000 or less. I really want a WRX, but the only WRX they have listed is @ 39,000 miles and I am skeptical about any 2 year old car with mileage that high, especially with no warranty.
I'd love to have the turbo, but Im thinking the 165 hp RS should be a substantial power upgrade from the 92 hp '90 laser I was driver which died this week.
My reasoning is that I can drive the RS under warranty for the rest of the year, sell it for as much as I paid and then get a WRX or something else after that.
Anyone think this is a good idea? Is the RS a dog, or just a dog compared to the WRX?
Also, how much is the extended warranty if I decide to keep it?

Dude, I wouldn't hesitate to get that car. I've been looking for an '02 RS for a long time and I haven't seen one that cheap. I'd jump on it. Sure, compared to a WRX it looks like a snail. However, compare it to all the other cars in its class. It's got more power and torque than Civic, Corolla, Neon, Cavalier, Protege, etc. AND it's AWD. Even the new Mazda3 (a great car by the way) doesn't stand up to it mechanically. I'd buy it, it's a steal.
Don't sell the 2.5 motor short. 165hp with the Impreza's weight will move it quite handily. The engine is pretyy much bullet-proof (no turbo to blow up), torque is good and the power is pretty smooth through the band. You can get in a lot of trouble if you aren't careful.

Umm you call that high mileage?
And I wouldnt not go to FL just for one car. There are more auctions near you(I dont know where u live).
Why dont you get a WRX for 13-14K with like 40K miles instead. There are plenty of them at the auctions. If u want to spend less and have a quicker car get a MY00 or MY2k1 2.5 RS, they are lighter and VERY cheap.
Good Luck.

FIrst off, look back and see if they have any GC chassis RS', and if they do buy it. They are lighter, and much more fun to drive IMO stock than a WRX or 2.5RS. BUT if they dont then jump on it, because Edmunds list's the price at a dealer at a tad over 15k
