I know 5W-30 is the recommended oil, but what does everyone think about the 0W-30 for winter and the 0W-40 for summer. These are the state of the art as far as motor oils are concerned.
Also all Subies for the past year have used the EQ of a Fram PH3593A for the past 10 years. What's the new oil filter # and what is the Mobil1 or Fram equivalent?

The STi oil filter is not the same as the filters for other Subaru engines.

You may want to try the M1-104. It has a 76mm dia. and 20mm threads. I was able to use it on my RS with a new modified union, but I think it should fit an STI just fine. The full thread is at http://www.i-club.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25913 if your interested. And do to the fact Fram still uses cardboard to seperate clean oil from dirty inside their filters instead of metal you may want to steer clear of them. They did not get rated well from what I've read.

Just got a stock Subaru filter yesterday. Thing is so damn small I thought it was for a motorcycle! Aftermarket fitments do not yet seem to be available?? NAPA has no crosslisting. Fram gives wrong listing. Autozone gives no listing. Looks like stock rules for now.
*** You must replace that funky little collapsible washer at each oil change!! First time I've ever seen that. Is there a real copper aftermarket bushing available. Been changing my oil for 25 years and have never seen one of those leak if torqued properly.

I hear ya ddsski, but if you think that's small you should see the Toyota filters. I will say this. I just did my first oil change since I put in the M1 oil and M1 filter, and at about 3300 miles the oil was still pretty much clear. It was only a little darker then when I put it in. I could've left it in longer, but to avoid warranty issues it has to be changed according to their intervals. So even though the filter seems small it looks to me like it's doing it's job. If you want a bigger filter you could mount a remote filter system and put on a larger one.

Unless I misread the manual, 1st change at 3000 miles, 2nd at 7500, then every 7500 unless driving in heavy dust, towing etc. 7500 miles on Mobil1 should be no prob at all esp if they allow 7500 miles on dino oil!

Your right, it was the dealership that wanted them done more frequently. My bad. I'll wait a little longer for the next one considering the condition of the oil when it came out at 3300 miles.
