Break in question...???
I know Subaru says to keep the revs under 4K for the first 1K. I've passed that limit many times and was wondering if the dealer can download that info from my car's computer and make an issue reguarding a warranty claim?

i dont think it would be a problem because the day i bout my wrx it had 5miles on it so on my way home i was doing like 120mph some places.And before i had 1000miles i took the cars pass 140mph bone stock at the time.Know my cars has over 42k still running good cheers

I was wonderin same thing about my Sti I deffinately romped on it under the 1st 1k miles. Keep me posted on what you find out about this, from what I understan, most people dont think we will have any issues with the engine but that safety would be comforting

So did you guys redline it, and if not how high did you go in the RPMS?
The break in period is going to be the hardest part when I first pick my STi up, so I'm going to try and do a "speed break-in" and drive it 1000+ miles over a few days. What's the fastest you can go in each gear while staying below 4,000rpms?

The dealer told me to stomp hard AND easy on it during the 1st 1k miles but to keep it under 4 or 5 at most, then ideally change your oil after 1k and drive it like you stole it. seriously, drive it hard and fast and whatever, just like you plan on driving it every day. but listen be careful about that whole speed breakin thing - it doesnt really break your car in well and heres why - when you think about it the miles of the car is not what you are breaking in, you are breaking in the engine to revolving, so if you keep it in high gears close to 4000 rpms for a few days and reach 1k miles, you really might not have broken in the engine yet. Conversely somebody who drove it only in the city in 1st through 4th gears might "break it in" by 600 miles. The miles is just a company estimate - they are assuming that the engine will have revolved X times by the time you have gone 1k miles, you dont really want to quicken that process. Do what you want man but its a nice car and i wish I was gentler on mine out of the lot - you just never know better to control yourself for 2 or 3 weeks and then have fun for longer

the dealer I bought mine from recommended the 1000 mile break in. So far I have been pretty good about keeping the revs down and under half boost.
I figure half the break in period is to get all gears and mechanical surfaces working smoothly before you start putting real power down. It's not just the engine we are talking about, but the diffs & tranny as well.
I mean, it's not like you have to be rev happy to go silly fast with the STI.
