Engine/Power - EJ20T (pre-2006 WRX and JDM) There is replacement for displacement, it is forced induction - OEM 2.0 liter turbo engines in the USDM WRX. 90-94 Legacy Turbo EJ22 turbo engines can also be discussed here.

Drop-in filter choices? Is there a best?

ive heard some bad stuff about foam filters.
nothing from anyone that really matters though, just the peanut gallery pipeing in.
on the other hand ive never heard anything bad about a k+n, unless you over oil it and coat your MAF sensor in filter oil, but that would be your own fault.
I still have the stock paper filter because i dont expect that big of a gain from switching. When its time to replace it ill be going to a k+n though.
Thats what i've heard

Way to beat a dead horse man!
Here it is, nice and simple: 1) Remove silencer, 2)Buy Green panel filter, 3) Lube Green filter CAREFULLY, 4) Shove that suckah into the box, 4) Enjoy turbo spool 500 rpm's earlier.
THIS IS ALL OVER THE TECH FORUMS!!! RUN A SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is all. Carry on

you can clean K&N's too with their kits. i forgot how many times though. It doesn't clean it so its back to brand new again, but it cleans it enough i guess.

I just ordered the Perrin filter and put it in alittle bit ago. Damn, they sure do oil it alot! It came in a plastic bag and it was just loaded with that sticky oil. I tried to wipe off as much extra oil as I could. I went out for a test drive and the car seemed to jolt a lot during acceleration. Not sure if the ECU just hasn't had time to relearn everything since I reset it. I'll drive around a lot tomorrow and see how she runs and get back to you!
