Robispec was busy this weekend at the Redline Time Attack held at the Buttonwillow Raceway! Being one of the sponsors for the event, we had a healthy stable of cars that we set up for the weekend. Robi spent countless hours during the last few weeks to make sure everyone's cars were properly set up to have a successful weekend. (Seriously, this guy doesn't sleep!!!)
We were able to get my car out for the weekend also... although it was one of the last to be setup in order to get the customers cars done first.
Saturday we were busy working on alignments all day with plans for me to run on sunday's event. The first two sessions I had issues with my intercooler piping blowing off under boost...thanks to the guys at Dynocomp for their donation of a new coupler, we were able to get it fixed barely in time to run in the first time attack session.
Because my lap times were so slow in practice due to the piping issues, I got sent to the back of the pack for the timed sessions. We ended up passing 3 cars during the 3 lap session moving us up a little further for the 2nd time attack session. My fast time of the session was sitting around 2:08.xx. During the next practice session, Dieter Heinz, driver of the Robispec/MFQ Motorsports Evo, went for a ride with me and gave me a lot of help finding the right lines.
The 2nd time attack session is where we were able to make up a little more ground. Robi made some alignment changes on the car and now with Dieter's help on picking the right lines I was able to cut over 6 seconds off my lap time!!!...this time passing 1 car in the 3 laps resulting in a best time of 2:02.8xx -- good enough for a 4th place finish in AWD Street Class!
Official Results for the top 3 were:
Street AWD:
1st = JC Maynet - Harmon Motive STI - 1:57.241
2nd = Yang Tang - Lee Miles/Robispec Mitsubishi Evo - 2:01.625
3rd = David Wheaton - LIC Motorsports STI - 2:02.467
A big thanks to everyone that helped this weekend -- Robi, MFQ Motorsports, Harman Motive Tuning, Dynocomp for the coupler donation, Dieter Heinz for the driving instruction, and everyone else that helped make this weekend successful!
Here's a few pics of the car from this weekend...Suspension modifications include Robispec/KW Clubsport Coilovers, Whiteline 27mm front and rear sway, Whiteline Anti-lift kit, Whiteline Roll-Center kit, Whiteline Adjustable rear trailing arms, Whiteline Max-C camber plates, and precision laser alignment by Robert Fuller (Robi)
