I've got a '99 OBS, everything is bone stock except for a ACT Street clutch and a Street light flywheel. I need to put a new exhaust on it soon, the old one is rusting through. But, I also want a Cobb CAI. Both will happen eventually, but I don't know which to do first.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I would do the exhaust first since your other one is rusting out, gotta make the cake before you can frost it ya know...

It should last another six months or so. I am just tempted by the CAI because it is cheaper than the exhaust. I want to modify a Borla Hush a little and put it on my OBS.

So the consensus is exhaust and then intake?

many, many , many peopel will tell you to not "waste" your money on a intake. that you get no power benifits and to put it else where. I got one and i like it. but if you want an order here's a very common order that i read baout many itmes for the bug eyes.
1. cobb accessport
2. up pipe
3. light weight pully wheel
4. cat back.
On the 2.5 i don't think you need the up pipe nearly as much.

I don't really know much about the whole electronics side of things (ie tuning my ECU) how vital would you say something like accessport is?

IIRC, the stock uppipe is catless after '05. I'm not sure if an OE-catless uppipe is a bolt-on replacement for the original.

Since when do NA 1999 Outback Sports have uppipes?

The AP is not available for your vehicle (unless you swap in a WRX or STi motor and ECU ;)).

Thanks for the back up, I was about 90% sure that n/a cars didn't have up pipes, but I am still learning and didn't want to speak unless I was 100% sure.
Moving on, I was doing a little reading and some people on a 2.5 rs forum said that exhausts that sounded amazing on a WRX for example would sound totally different on a n/a car. They were saying it had to do with the headers being EL on the OBS and un-equal on the WRX. The exhaust I am looking at is for a WRX, but I am going to modify it a little to fit my car...assuming that it won't sound like a rice burner. The reason I am asking this is because I don't want my car to be loud and heard from 5 miles away.
