Well you guys know how notorious i am for thinking of whacky ideas on what to do for my RS...I was just curious how much it would be to swap in an 06 WRX 2.5L motor into an RS compared to the plain 'ol 2.0L? I'm sure the process would be the same and require just about the same parts. Thanks! :)

I have a question along those lines... As far as CARB legality and smoggability, now that the Impreza chassis has the 2.5L turbo engine, can any 2.5L turbo (IE FXT, LGT) sourced engine be installed and 'called' an Impreza 2.5T? Seems like, if possible, this would open the door to a lot more 2.5's available. I myself would love to have a 2.5 turbo under the hood of my RS coupe and a LIC sticker on the trunk. :D

AFAIK it is supposed to come from the same chassis, so you could put an STi 2.5 in a '95 Impreza for example, but you couldn't use a FXT 2.5 because the Forrester is a different chassis. What I am asking is, since the WRX has a 2.5 turbo now, could a FXT engine be used since it's the same engine or do they check VINs or engine codes, etc.

The way it works is your allowed to swap any motor into any car as long as it is newer than the car and retains the smog equipment.

In the meantime while you are waiting for an answer, I think it should be very similar to the price of the 2.0, of course with variance for the price of the engine itself. LIC has a nice outline of swap prices on their site..

Depends on how much different the wiring will be. Im sure the new 2.5L WRX, LGT, and FXT motors are drive by wire throttle systems like the STi's are...so thats once difference. Not necessarily harder I dont think, but different none the less, that is something Adam will have to address. I think wombat is right with saying the big difference in price will be with the purchase of the engine, etc itself.
