Hey guys...
I know you guys have done a few auto to manual swaps and i have a couple of questions...
recently i've been looking to do my 60K service myself including timing belt change...etc.
I'll be converting my 02 4EAT WRX with a 03 5MT WRX wireharness (complete uncut including sensors...etc.). and putting in a JDM 6 speed driveline MY03
the entire car will be stripped down to the chassis then the other wireharness will be put into the car.
are there any differences between the 4EAT WRX engine vs the 5MT WRX engine regarding timing belt tensioners, water pump, oil pump, oil seals...etc.
of course i would have brought it to you guys if i were in your area but i'm not so i have no other alternative but to do it myself.
any help you guys could give me in advance would be greatly appreciated!

Curious why you're doing the timing belt @ 60k? It's not due till 105k. As for the converting from auto to manual, I believe swapping out the harness is the best and most complete way to do it. Then it would be just like stock as it would've come from the factory. Keep in mind you will also need an ECU & ABS pump from a manual as well. As for the motor, there are no differences. Good Luck!

yes we've conversed about this swap before on the phone... i think i spoke to you guys after i bought the stuff from FLI motorsports.
just from the amount of abuse that i've given the car since i've gotten it (not until after 15000 though). yes i'm fully aware that i'll need those things and i have those as well.

hope you guys are still looking at this thread... i think i might have a problem.
before starting and while in the process of taking all the wiring from the donor car, i've noticed that the fuel wiring harness is not the same as the one that i've got in my automatic (the connector color and the connector shape is different). the one that i've got in my car is p/n: 81802FA131 and the one that i had to order that came from an 03 WRX was p/n: 81803SA000. the one that i ordered has a brown connector next to a black connector that connects somewhere on the top of the fuel tank. whereas my harness doesn't seem to have it. i say seem to have it since we haven't totally dropped the fuel tank yet. i can see the majority of the fuel tank top though.
since my car is a 2002 wrx and not a 2003 wrx does that make a difference? does this play a factor regarding auto to manual?
if i don't have that sensor to plug into will this be a problem for my car since i have the complete 03 WRX wiring harness and ecu?
please let me know what you think. i've already removed the rear subframe to get to the fuel tank. if the weather holds up tonight i'll be dropping the fuel tank (it's about 95% out already).
any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It's for an additional fuel tank sensor that the 03 has and 02 does not. If you are using an 02 ECU then it doesn't matter, if 03 then it will have a code for that sensor that doesn't exist in your 02 fuel tank. I don't believe you need that portion of the harness anyways. You should only need the dash harness that goes through the firewall to the motor & tranny, other than that everything should be the same and just plug into the rest of your car's other harness's.

thanks for the help adam on the phone and on this thread. i really appreciate it.
just to let you know the swap is 95% complete. it took me 2 whole days to totally gut the entire car (everything came out except the engine) and replace the entire driveline with a jdm sti driveline.
regarding the sensor. i went back to the donor car and took a cutting wheel to it and found the sensor that i needed (the one that's connected to the brown connector)
FYI: the pressure sensor that's on the 02 wrx (mine anyway, manufactured in june 2001) was the same as the 03 WRX one. all i had to do was remove the other sensor (not bolted into the tank but on top of the tank held on by a bolt) and connect a vaccum hose to it that goes in between the two sensors and secure it to the top of the fuel tank.
i am having a slight problem though... the jdm sti tranny has dccd on it so it has a 6 pin connector that sits on the top of it. it connects to the dccd control unit harness. since i'm not prepared to install the dccd system (due to having to physically wire everything together -- might do it tomorrow) i don't have anything plugged into it.
Is this ok?
also i have a 4 pin connector that looks similar to the 6 pin one i have for my dccd control unit but it comes from the body harness and doesn't have anything to plug in to. it is not the one that goes to the oxygen sensor and it's not the speed sensor.
what is this harness for?
i can post a picture of you need it.
any help would be appreciated! :D
