We (I) were all (was) FOOLED by Royal Purple

I haven't posted in soooo long but today I just had to!

Upon going to my local auto parts store, plug for Smothers here, I noticed my usual motor oil, Royal Purple in 5W30 was not available. I sauntered over to the counter and asked the very helpfull young man if he had any in the back. He asked me if I was doing synthetic changes in my car with a smirk, I said yes and he came out from the back with 6 quarts(I always get a spare) of Red-Line!

I stopped him and said I had requested RP to which he replied , "then you aren't using synthetic!" with that damn smirk again on his face!!!

He then proceeded to show me the new labling on the RP bottles which no longer claim to be Synthetic but just to have a "Synthetic additive". So much for saving a few cents over Red Line. He said he would be surprised if RP would stay around or at least stop getting the hefty price it has been getting claiming to be synthetic.

When I got home, I could not believe how stupid I had been for so long. Remember that extra bottle I mentioned earlier??? Well 3.5K miles ago I bought one and sure enough my bottle of RP said "synthetic" all over it....no mention of additives or any of the new crap that is on the bottle he showed me. Talk about pissed!

Half of you will tell me this is old news, the other half have been telling me to run Red Line since 2002!

Mobil 1 was what I WAS using before Royal Purplehead, and that's what ticked me off! I was getting a case of that for 23 bucks at Costco and it realy WAS synthetic!

Why am I using Red Line now? To spite my wife for denying me a 5 Series!
Nah, I have no good reason, but it does smell good.

Maybe I don't want to go back to using that stuff, hate burn up on re-entry!

NASA has deep pockets and plenty of guiny pigs for trial and error , Big Daddy here only has one daily driver.

Try Amsoil. I've heard and read numerous sources that have nothing but good things to say about it......
