WELL...last night was an interesting night. Here's how it started:
I received a phone call from my brother (Adam) he says "Noah, Andrew's car's on fire", I replied with "Get the F- out of it", Adam responds with bring a fire extinguisher...I say "where", Adam says more or less its 2 blocks away from our shop. So I took off running with my fire extinguisher in hand (those of you who know me, I don't run that well) but seriously I made it to them in about 1 minute. I emptied the extinguisher into the engine bay... but it was so hot it didn't put it out totally, so Andrew asks a police officer whom just arrived if he had a fire extinguisher and he replied with "we'll wait for the fire dept", Andrew was like WHAT!!! So he asks another police officer if he has one and the officer went to his car and grabbed it, and out of nowhere here comes Adam with a random bucket of water, he threw it on it and it still wasn't out... at this point the police officer douced the engine bay with it......finally it was done and out.
Hopefully in the next couple of days we'll be able to dive into it and see where it originated from and what caused it.
Here's how RS TURBO stands today.
*and NO the car was not just worked on...

Man Andrew, that just sucks... Luckly the car doesnt look permenantly damaged. The frame got saved, but the strut towers might be structurally weak now... Im glad someone was nearby with water and fire extiguishers, I didnt have that option :(

Wow, glad to hear Andrew is OK. You might want to take a look at that fuel rail system. Looks like things originated from the left hand side up high in the engine bay, near the fuel rails on the passenger side.
Sorry to hear that man,

Thanks everyone, we haven't really spent any time on it yet until the insurance company looks at it. Afterwards we can start tearing things out to get to the root cause. As it is now I'm leaning towards a bad coil, I think it may have shorted out. Really don't think it was a fuel related fire, but am not ruling it out ofourse, given the location.
I can say this: Today we bought a couple Auto Specific (Foam) Fire Estinguishers to carry in our cars from now on. Definately don't want to be helpless again if it were to ever happen to me. Luckily, being in downtown made it possible for the Police to come quickly and for me to run around and find a hose and bucket behind a building late at night. Imagine if we were somewhere on the freeway in the middle of nowhere, waiting and watching. Don't want to think about it :(
Note: When putting out an engine bay fire, DO NOT open the hood. Just pop the hood then put the extinguisher nozzle under the front of the closed but popped hood and spray - this greatly decreases the oxygen available for buring and restircts the flames. It really does work, then wait a few minutes before you open the hood.

Exactly what Whit said, we did see it flare up once when it was originally opened, then kept it closed and they used the fire estinguishers on it through the vents and hood scoop.
It will be rebuilt, fortunately the fire was contained in the engine bay. If it had another hood on it right now, you couldn't tell that there was a fire. Ofcourse there is some work ahead of us, but that's normal for this car ;)
