What are some good tires for the strip

I'm currently running 225/40/18 Kuhmo Ecsta Supra and they are not very effective on the track. What tire should I buy to alleviate my traction problems at the track?

Thanks
SZ

I've seen guys turn easy 12's in a WRX and they're not running exotic rubber or slicks. Are you spinning them off the line? What's your trap speed?

Yes, I'm spining my tires enough to affect a second or so. My 60 was 1.936.

Your 60 ft. isn't bad. Even if you're spinning the tires off the line you are still moving forward, with this 60 ft. I see in magazines that some quick 60 ft times are in the 1.70 to 1.80 range. Guys at the local strip are running anywhere from that to well over two seconds.

What happens if you launch at a lower RPM, then just nail it once it hooks up?

I think so too but only a little bit is necessary to cushion the drivetrain and keep the RPMs up.

If you want to get stickier tires don't get anything but drag radials. Tires like the kumho victoracer (which is what I use to autocross) are sticky but they also have a stiff sidewall and are heavy. But that is my opinion and I don't have a clue about drag racing.
Sounds like good advice to me. For drag racing, a real stiff sidewall will probably shock the tires more and result in wheelspin. I used to use Yokohama 008's (out of production) on another car and they had a tread design that was more like a slick - bad in the rain but a lot of tire patch on the road surface.

I'd never use drag slicks like FWD or RWD cars for a street-driven WRX (you didn't say what you're driving). Slicks are an invitation to early clutch or transmission failure.
