I'm trying to decide between tire sizes and wondering if going wider is better. I've narrowed it down to the following options:

Dunlop StarSpecs 245/45/17 or 245/40/17. I'm afraid 245/45 would be a bit too tall but i like the meaty-look too. But also don't want to sacrifice performance for looks.

And finally, would 255/40 work with my 17x8 stockers?

245/45/17 fits meety already and prevents curb rash. You wont sit too tall. :_)

Yes, I do like the meaty-ness of the 245/45. But i hear it's probably too tall considering the tall gearing of the WRX, especially 2nd and 3rd gear. I'm definitely leaning towards 245/45.

Or you could get my.green grids and slap some 265/45/17 on there.

^glad you chimed in, Luke...would 255/40 work with 17x8?

You guys have RS-3s at a killer price in that size.

255/40 fits ideally on 8.5-10" width wheel.

I'd go w/ 245/40.

yea if it bulges out too much you will lose some of that sidewall stiffness. I would just run the 245/40.

And I would skip on the direzza!

rs3 or RA1 =D

From further research and tests, RA1 is definitely better than r888 on our heavy vehicles on an avg track day!

I actually ended up getting the star specs. Can't complain, but I think i will try the RS3's for my next set.
