Buy a 2007 WRX Wagon or wait for the 2008 WRX Wagon/Hatchback/whatever?
A friend of mine is trying to decide if he should buy the 2007 WRX Wagon or wait for the 2008 WRX Wagon/Hatchback/whatever.
He's on a budget of $26,000. That's his final price limit.
He likes how they look about the same. Looks aren't what are making him confused about his decision.
He's concerned about which has more interior space and which performs better. He says that better gas mileage won't hurt either (if either gets better MPG's).
So what kind of advice would you offer him? Any help is welcomed, thanks!

I lean toward the new one. Aesthetics are subjective of course, but the newer car will be safer, have better handling potential (once the aftermarket catches up), and be better all around. In my opinion.
It'll start with possibly lower spec, though. It's a new model, so they didn't throw on a bunch of goodies, right away. I snagged a Product Guide brochure from a dealership the other day, and if I'm reading right, the brakes on the WRX will go back to the 2002-2005 style. The non-WRX Imprezas, again if I'm reading right, will have drum rears. In a very weird move, the WRX will have P205/50-R17 tires. That's a step down from the current P215/45-R17.
Seems strange to me, but perhaps things will be different. Just not sure. But IMO, the double-wishbone rear suspension is pretty awesome, insofar as potential goes. On the other hand, yeah, pricing can be very good on outgoing MY2007 cars.

For 26k, I would definitely go for the 2007 wagon. Personally I am not a fan of the new Impreza. After getting the wagon, he probably may have some money left to get a simple part (ex:exhaust, springs, possibly coilovers.) I feel that if he got the wagon, he would share the style of a Impreza just like all of us who owns the later models. Good luck would with the car buy, and congrats when you get it. It should feel great.
because he will save thousands over purchasing a 08.
Right now prices are good because all the Subaru dealerships
need to make room for the brand new 08's.
Overall interior space the 07 will be his best choice.
All Subaru's get great MPG and are also very dependable/reliable too.
Subaru's hold their value very well over the years.
If he has any money left over tell him to do some mods
that would be nice!

Not 0.3mph, a full 3mph, big difference. And I'm willing to bet the car is just as fun with the VDC turned off.
Road trip and buy mine.

hands down the 07, they will work more on pricing, there isnt going to be much performance diff between the 2 and the 07's look way better the 08 is a toyota corolla with a hood scoop
I just bought the last 2007 WRX Wagon of a lot in Colorado Springs for $22,500. I've read a lot about the new WRX and struggled with the same decision. After having the car for a couple weeks, and getting countless complements, I do not regret going with the 2007.
