tires for 06 wagon
I heard from both Tire Rack and Irvine Subaru (a dealer that actually knows mods) and they both said you have to roll the rear fenders if you want to go bigger than 225, especially if you ever want to lower the car. Unless you're making big power, there's probably not much advantage to getting wider tires. Just make sure you get good tires and a good alignment with some negative camber in the front.
The biggest tires you can run would largely depend on how WIDE your wheels are.
The rubbing would largely depend on the OFFSET and WIDTH your wheels are in combination with the tire size.
Recommended tire size for a 7.5 wide rim is 225, however 235 are okay also depending on the application. Also note that your speedometer will be affected so match the sidewall height appropriately.
Another thing, bigger and wider tires and wheels isn't solely justified by BIG POWAH. There are other factors regarding handling that are important also. With that said, investing in a high quality summer ultra high performance tire in the stock size will go a long way (assuming you don't need All-Seasons)
