Tire pressures and understeer

If stock pressures on a 2004 STI are 36/30, what pressures would dial out as much understeer as possible via tires. I was thinking going to 36/34, is my understanding correct that increasing rear pressure increases oversteer?

yeah, more stiffness in the rear decreases understeer, if you want to go crazy, just pump up the rears and leave the fronts alone, then you can get a good feel for how exactly the tire pressures are effecting the handling.

Why would they set up car with such profound pressure stagger if they are fighting an understeer tendency. I know that understeer is always safer on public roads, v. oversteer being faster on the track (ie being loose).

Oversteer is fun and faster on the track but understeer is safer - no argument. Enthusiasts tend to minimize understeer by increasing pressure on the front, but I sure prefer my wife's minivan understeer rather than oversteer or even balance.

No, this is not correct. DECREASING rear pressure reduces rear grip, thereby promoting oversteer (or less understeer, depending on your point of view).

thanx, I had reasoned that out in my head after that earlier post. Was thinking about other suspension parts
