tire pressure & tread temperature
tire pressure & tread temperature
Anyone have experience using an infrared thermometer to measure tread temp (after a drive) and use the temp diff. to determine tire pressure? I have an infrared thermometer that has a 1/2 inch opening.
Used it for the first time today; measurements after a 10 mile drive had a about an 6 deg C delta across the the tread ... just did the fronts. The inside was warmer than the outside of the tread.
Just looking for comments & ideas ... or anyone that has actually done something with this would be good.

I use a pyrometer to measure tire temps when tracking my car or autocrossing .... I measure the tread in three places across the surface ..... a higher temp in the middle then the pressure is to high higher on both shoulders indicates pressure is to low .... slightly higher temps on the inside shoulder is preferable on an autocross course because it is showing the use of negative camber which will aid the "turn in"
