Lookin' for a good commuter tire pretty much. Good tread so I don't hydroplane when it's wet outside. Performance (or rubber that sticks/rubs off fast) isn't important. I commute and drive like a grandpa anywho. Something cheap, lasts long, and as affordable as possible. Oh and if possible, a quiet tire?

Lemme know if you guys have tried some good tires or heard of some that would be great to use. Also hopin' AutoInnovations has 'em.

My current tires at 225/45/17. Not too sure of the leeway on getting anything wider =P.

 

I liked the Yokohama Avid V4s while I had it. Lasted long for me. Not too expensive either. Look it up.

 

I can't say more good thing about my continental extreme contact DWS, they are great in dry/rain but really shine in the snow!! I have been in 12"+ inches of snow, ice covered roads and they grip like snow tires!! and they have a 50k warenty!!

They can be found for $75-105 usually at 225/45/17.

I got my proxe 4's for $84 a piece last year. Basically I'd pick like 4 tires you like then just search sales and get the best deal you can.

 

I've been really impressed with Sumitomo over the years.

 

i run these: Kumho ASX with no complaints. they've seen snow, sleet, rain, and shine. if you're granny shifting every gear then i'd say you might not miss the performance difference. i still need to swap out to my summer tires or r-comps for a good thrill.

i feel like AI would carry these. still looking at $95 for the 225/45. i don't know what cheap is to you since it's all relative, but that's pretty cheap to me.

 

I had some Avon Tech M550 all seasons on my STi a few years ago that I used as a winter setup. They were good all around, comfortable/quiet and I think would meet your requirements. Ironically the only thing I wasn't satisfied with was ice/snow since they were meant for tahoe trips. I think I paid $415 total shipped to my door so not too bad.

BFGoodrich G-Force Sport has worked for us on Subed (Forester XT).
~$100/tire. Lasted 40k miles.

 

Im selling a set of 95%+ new Yokohama S-Drive tires for $330 for all 4... I paid $120 for EACH, plus all the crap that goes with them (shipping, etc). I used these tires for around 500-650 miles with commuting to SJ from fremont every day. They are High performance, a category down from ultra (best summer tires) high performance and will last quite a bit longer. I need the money because Im moving and they need to go. $330 for all 4 takes all four tires which is cheap as hell for almost brand new tires. I thing they are 235/45/17, could be 245's, which is fine for a WRX.

 

I have been very happy with my Falken Ziex 912's. They've lasted me a good amount of time, and handle the drive to Tahoe with no issues, regardless of what the conditions are. Not too noisy, and you can usually find a good deal. I found a shop through Craigslist that will mount and balance my 18's with some new Ziexes for 420.

 

WHOA!!! $420 for the tires, and labor?! Thats an incredible and unheard of price... I'd be weary of extra charges because that sounds too good to be true.
