STI Tire Size
STI Tire Size
I'm wondering if it would be better to go with 235-40-17's or stay with the 225-45-17 size for stock STI rims. The circumference will decrease by about 7%. Will this effect acceleration, because it will be "geared down" in effect? What size and tire would you recommend for the Stock STI rims after the OEM's wear out? Thanks!
The shorter tire will get the car through a gear more quickly, but will also require more shifts to get to a certain speed. I'd recommend sticking with the 225s because they work well and there are lots of tires to choose from. The 235s will give a bit better lateral grip, but will also increase the fender well gap, lower the gearing (increase the ratio), and put more miles on your car.
Dexter, thanks for your advice. First of all let me tell you that I think you guys are really great. Very professional. I have almost always ordered tires from you guys, and haven't had one problem whatsoever. That said how much do you sell the OEM Bridgestone potenza RE070's for (discount, discount, ha,ha j/k)? Is there another tire that you would recommend with similar characteristics (grip vs wear)? Thanks.
We sell the OE tires for 175 each. It's a tough one to match because it is close to an R compound tire. I'd take a look at the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I just tossed a set of those on the good ol' wagon with great results. They have a free DVD player promotion right now as well.

I guess Michelin is going in the same direction as Pirelli with an Assymetrico patter on the tire. I think they finally realized it works because Pirelli has been using that design for quite awhile now.
Asymmertics generally offer better responsiveness than their directional counterparts. Directionals will always win the hydroplane-resistance war though. I planned on going with the Goodyears, but I just never seem to drive in the rain. These PS2s react wonderfully - but remind me many times a day that I need some suspension mods - I'll take one Praxis please...
Well this is really cool, we have a Rep. from the Tire Rack.. I mean how much more Knowlegable and prefessional Pointers can you get.. But ok enough Brown Nosing..
.. What do you guys Recommend for the STi in the winter time here in Northern Nevada ??
Ps: Ohh yeah that means in terms of JUST winter tires on stock BBS's .. And even for summer time what type of after market wheel and what offset can I go with ?
Thanks guys!!!

Right now we just have the ASA KA3 for $149 each. We're getting the SSR GT7 in stock in late Oct/early Nov. You would use the OE size - 225/45-17 on the wheels.
Offset on the wheels hovers around 50mm, but the big deal is brake caliper clearance. Most wheels (the VAST majority) that fit the WRX do not fit the STi.
