Seeking advice on tire sizes!
I've been searching the net and can't find too much info on this subject, so here it goes...
I have a 03 WRX with stock struts and springs, fenders aren't rolled. My rims are 17x8 ET 48. What is the widest tire I can run without doing any kind of modifications? Is it possible to run a 235 width tire without rubbing? Thanks!

Is your car a sedan or wagon? The sedan has wider fenders & you could fit 245/40-17, may rub on rear (depends on specific tires) but slightly roll will fix that (the front will clear just fine). 235/40-17 will fit perfectly w/o rolling at all. If you have wagon, I'd stick w/ 225/45-17.

I also have a 03 WRX sedan and looking to go wider tire size like 245/45/17. Currently running 225/45/17 Yokohama S.Drive on Enkei RPM2 wheel 17x7 with Tein MonoFlex/EDFC. Some say 245 will rub, some say it will not depend on suspension setup. Any inputs are highly appreciated. TIA

My apology. I was going to go wider wheel size as well (17x8 or 8.5). My concern is proper offset so the wheel bearings can have even weight distribution. I do not know the "magic" offset for 17x8 or 8.5 for 03 WRX Sedan. I was considering to go with Drag DR-32 wheels 17x8 but not sure if these wheels have "the right" offset for my car. Any infos are highly appreciate. TIA.

My summer set is Advan Racing RCII 17x8.5" +45 offset w/ Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec 235/40-17 (these runs wider than others). I'm on SPT pink springs w/ stock shocks & my rear fenders are rolled. I have no rubbing w/ this set up. I was rubbing on rear fenders w/ 245/40-17 Bridgestone Potenza S-03 PP on sharp turns before rolling the fenders. Btw, the Star Spec in 235 is WIDER than the S-03 in 245.
Is this the wheel you are thinking? Looks like it only comes in 17x7.5" & 18x7.5".
I think 245/45-17 is too TALL for WRX but ok for STI. If I were in the market for new wheels, I'd get MB wheels Gear (only $100 ea. after instant rebate!!! ) w/ 235/40 or 245/40. Btw, this is real JDM A-Tech Finalspeed Gear-R rebranded to MB.

You're right, Fendyman. DR-32 does not go wider than 7.5 (Boo!). Those MB wheels are *****in. I am trying to find 6 spokes wheel like Volk TE37. DR-32 seems like good equivalent until you have mentioned the width. Thank you for the offset info, btw. That helps tremendously.

I'm running a 255/40r18 and had to roll the fenders in the rear. A 245/45r17 will probably have a slight rub problem in the rear. Get em rolled and you'll be flush in no time.

Same car, an 03 wrx, but I don't want to roll the fenders in the rear as compromising the paint is an issue when winter rolls around for 7 months of the year (I live in Prince George, B.C.) and in the spring and summer it's taken it's toll on the roads so upgraded suspension would be a painful waste of my hard earned money. What I'm really asking is am I stuck buying 235/45/17s? I want the 245 even if I have to stay at 16 inch rim and just fill my wells with more tire (I don't want a 1" profile tire in case I actually hit a hefty pothole for once).
What are my stock and unrolled options? I feel like such a jackass noob but I'd rather not damage my car, I love it too much <3 and you guys seem to know from experience.
Thanks for any and all replies.

How about stock 06 STI BBS 17 x 8 rims? Ive got an 06 STI thats slightly lowered not dumped with Tein basic coilovers & sitting at stock alignment settings. Whats the widest I can fit with out rolling & rubbing? Also whats a good lasting tire for a mildly aggressive driver? Anyone have the same or close enough set up?
