Max performance tires for summer (Compound R)

Hi All,
I've noticed on tirerack that they have ultra high performance summer tires and max performance. I would like to know the difference ... Also if anyone could reply with a list of compound R tires, that would be great. I'm looking to auto-x this summer, so I want grip over everything else. Suggestions?
Thanks
Suraj

Maximum Performance:
These are the absolute best performing tires on the market. Great steering response and wet/dry traction (not for use inthe snow!!!) which is at home on the track.

Ultra High Performance:
A step down form the Max tires but, still exceptional performance which fits most application for a street tire that can be driven very aggressivley.

Depending on what size you need you can get some Toyo RA-1's. These are one of the best streetable max grip tires you can get.

I love my S03's they stick like glue and their great in the rain. I have also heard good things about Toyo's but I will buy S03's again when this set wears out.

The Toyo RA-1 is a kick *** tire if you taking your car to the track often. since its a R compound tire it wont last as long on the street. If your going to mainly drive on the street and hit the track once in a while get the S0-3's.

Awesome info guys, what are your opinions on the Yokohama AVS sports and the ES100? are the respective grip of these tires comparable to the Azenis, MXs or S03s?

Surja,

You may already know but there is a ton of info on www.Tirerack.com if you want to see what others think, and just Tirerack reviews.

Yokohama's have always been pretty good tires, I use to have them on my 914, but don't know about the AVS or the ES100's. Check out tirerack and see what you can find.

I have been reading the tirerack performance reviews and comparisons. But I would also like to know first hand, from people, what tires they have used and what have worked well on their Subies. A little more knowledge and info doesn't hurt =) .... plus the difference in car dynamics such as AWD vs RWD vs FWD and the different car weights will affect performance as well as wear slightly differently. Price also plays a major role for me ...... I'm such a cheap @$$

AVS dB2 is inferior to the ES100 from what I've heard, even though it's more expensive. However, the ES100 is not so great for the track, but makes an EXCELLENT street tire.

I have run Falken Azenis several times/// they're prolly the best tire for the money (about $120 per tire on discount tire). I love the Toyo RA-1s but they are just too much money.

Someone else will probably chime in about this, but Azenis have a very poor reputation in the rain... I have not driven them personally, but a friend of mine has them on his modded Civic and he has serious handling problems in the rain, especially standing water. Too much flat area and too few channels to move water through.
