Unhappy Help! Tire size suggestions??

I have some 17x7 wheels that I need tires for. Not knowing a whole lot about tires, I don't know what size to get. I don't plan on lowering my car unless it looks real bad and I want the best ride possible. I stopped in a local bridgestone tire shop and they recommend 205/40's. Searching the forums, most people are recommending 215/45 or 225/45 for most questions. Tirerack.com shows the optional tire for 17" wheels for my legacy as 205/50. I figure I should tap into the knowledge of the i-club forum members before making any hasty decisions.

Thanks All,
Manny

Safe bet is 205/50-17. The O.D. is excellent. The 205/40s are too short, both is size and load capacity. 215/45 and 225/45 have good outer diameter, but I can't guarantee the fit without rubbing. If you wish to get good info from Legacy owners on the board, list the offset of your wheels as well. (usually on the back of the wheel; example "ET48")

Thanks for the advice. I feel more comfortable going with what is recommended by tire rack. I looked on the back of the wheel to find the offset. I couldn't find any anything as you described. All I can see that may be the offset was included with the size of the wheel (17X7 JJ 55). The wheels, which I've attached a picture of, are the JDM Legacy B4 rims if it may help.

Thanks again
Manny

You should be fine w/ 215's. I believe the Legacy has more fender clearence than my Impreza and I'm running 215/45/17's.

Thanks HomerJay. I think I'll go w/ 215's. I checked out the subaru australia website and they list the stock tire size for the Liberty B4 as 215/45/17's. Unless the body dramatically different, it should be fine like you say. Not much selection going with 205's for all seasons anyway.
