Angry clear coat pealing....

i think that caught the short end of the stick on this one. I bought a set of wheels 2 years ago and most of the clear coat has decided to peal off. I live in SLC, Utah but the rims saw very little snow and salt. The manufacturer only put a six month warrenty on the finish, what a crock of ****! Anyway, my question to you guys is what would cause this? Salt really isnt a factor. It has got to the point of ruining the aluminum and they look horrible. I would like to repair this, get rid of wheels or repaint? I can post up some pics if that may help. Any info would be great, thanks. Also what wheels would you recommend with a stronger finish?

P.S. - Super pissed because i just bought new tires and they dont come cheap these days!!!!

I gave up on keeping my clearcoats intact. It only takes some random chemical, road grime, or harsh wash to burn through it. If you detail and wash your car regularly, I would just polish them and remove the clearcoat. It is more work, but at least you can just repolish them whenever they look dull of get spotted. If you are going to stick with clearcoats, invest in a good wheel wash and wax to avoid it happening again. I had to have my first set of Volks redone at about $150 a wheel because I didn't appreciate the car nice wheels involve. Check out the following products to avoid issues next time:

Wheel wash

or my new favorite biodegradable

Wheel Wax

Chemical Guys make insanely nice stuff. The wheel wax seems expensive, but so are replacing wheels and the tub will last you years.
