no no...if clear coat is really gone this is a bad bad idea because clay bar and polish (especially polish) will start removing paint. your warranty will cover it if the clear coat is coming off, take your car to a professional or back to the dealership.

first of all identify what the rough spots are. are they black spots(some may be rusty) embedded in the paint? if so you may have fall-out(depending where u live)-hence not being covered under warranty,(removeable by claybar). but if the body is rusting through the paint then there is warranty coverage.(depending on yr of course)

is the paint fading in patches? is the clearcoat peeling? bottom line. . .subaru paint is not the best.. . in fact most automotive manufacturers paint is not the best quality. they try to get by with what will last the "ideal" life of the car.---a little strategy to make a profit.---

well I dont see any rust, but the area's that are rough feel sandpaper like when I am waxing them, and the wax does not make it feel smooth, and they also dont shine quite as nice as the rest of the car, all of them are on the upper part of the car like the upper part of the door and the back sidepanel and also the top and back of the trunk........ I noticed this was happening a few months ago to my trunk so I just waxed the hell out of it all the time but now its spreading to other parts of my car and I am getitng scared that something is wrong with my paint/ its just really rough patches

if it looks like haze, try the claybar. but ask fanker, he details cars quite nicely.

"CALIFORNIA GOLD®
CLAY BAR PAINT SAVING SYSTEM

You've heard about clay bars-professional detailers, body men and your car buddies all talk about how well it works. Now use the clay bar everybody wants. Created to lift the particulate debris and contaminants that washing can't, our exclusive Paint Saving System will remove embedded grains of metal, tree sap, airborne environmental deposits and paint overspray. Better yet, our clay bar isn't hazardous to your paint-it's just firm enough to pick up the bad stuff, without being too aggressive. Use Mothers® Clay Bar to get rid of paint-fouling grime and pave the way for complete waxing."

oh if it's overspray, then the mothers clay bar will take it off. just follow the directions and make sure to wax after.
