I just found this was discussed all over in nasioc..

glad this didn't happen on a freeway.
I've seen a couple more Rota broken like this on net. Another WRX I've seen this happened had take-off steel wheels. I was at the scene when WRX with steel wheel had its wheel sheered off. It almost flipped.

I think people think thatonly our wheels break under motorsport conditions. These wheels are tested using a cornering fatigue test machine to a max load of 690 kg per wheel. These is more than adequate for a Subaru WRX.

Now sometimes, there are just instances in motorsports that are very hard to simulate on a lab test. We have sold over 25,000 wheels this past year alone in the US and at least 40% are being used in some form of motorsport event. We have had 5 repored wheel failures all involving use in some form of track eventor motorsports event. This, I think is a pretty big amount of wheels being used in pretty stressful conditions

There are a lot of wheels that break in motorsports, I have even seen OEM wheels which are very over engineered to break in a track day. With the sheer amount of Rotas being used in motorsports like auto x and track days, there will always a rim that will break.

I guess some people will not agree with my view but a wheel will break no matter what brand given a set of circumstances. We are one of a few manufacturers out there that actually warranty a wheel used in competition. Thats how we back our product. If we were some shady wheel maker, we could always say that hey we cant warranty that cause you used that in racing etc... We have never done this.
