the V700 is a good starter R-compound track tire .... tires like the V710, Hoosier R6, BFG R1's are all faster but, much less forgiving .... it's a learning curve and you shouldn't skip a step because, that's when you get into trouble. I have had many people run full blown r-comp race tires only to discover the hard way that they need to slowly progress into that level of grip .... many clubs won't even let a novice run r-compound tires on track days. While the VictoRacer is an R-comp tire it is much more progressive in nature like the Sport Cup, Pirelli Corsa, Yokohama A048 all of which would be accpetable choices ... I would advise you to stay away from the Hoosier and BFG at this time


and everybody in the commercial is an actor ... the shop shown isn't even in the same state as The Tire Rack

 

mike first off i would say go to at least 225-45-17 size
nitto NT-01 should last you a whole season. they are cheap at around $150/ea for that size. or just drop it all for the toyo R888.
i wanted the Dunlop Z1 star specs but it is nationally backordered in the size 255-40-17......too bad. this is a street tire i would look at. the falken 615 is OK, wrx is hard on this tire, when i had them on my wrx it wasn't fun at all dealing with the understeer for turn-in's then end up with greasy exits. but even on my rx8 after 5 laps i found myself unable to put power down on the rx8, 2nd gear exits were pretty tough. but 255 width was very stable, the stiff sidewalls are good, now that only brought me to the attention that i need to upgrade the struts on the car now.
so find yourself a 17x8+ wheel and i'll ditch my falkens for the nittos toyo or dunlops. or we can just buy a container and import some BS RE11 or RE55 over.

 

What are your guys thoughts on running a 245 width tire on a 7.5 inch wheel. My tires are about done and would like to run the max width of 245 in the STU class in autocross, but really don't have the money to buy a set of 17 x 8 wheels (also max width in STU for AWD). Or should I just go a little wider (235) on my stock STi wheels?

 

you will not realize the benefits of the wider tire on the 7.5" wheel and the tire will have sluggish response

Thanks Luke, so if I should be able to secure some 17 X 8 wheels. What is your recommendation for tire size; 235/45, 245/40 or 245/45 for autocross to replace my currently stock 225/45/17 on 17 x 7.5 wheels?
