Question 17x8.5 +50 on a wagon?

I'm planning on picking up a used set of 17x8.5 +50 offset Volks and am wondering if I will have any fitment issues putting them on an 04' wagon. I plan on going with 215/45 rubber. TIA

ok.. can i ask why get 17x8.5 when your going to put 215 rubber, your gonna curb those rims

17x7.5 can run up to 235/45

I've heard 215 is the safest bet with the wagons. I would love to run a 225 or wider tire but will most likely rub. As far as the the width of the wheel, they are used so it's not like I have a choice when it comes to rim size.

I don't think you can put a 215 on a 17x8.5 wheel. there is a guy around here with I believe either 17x8 or 17x8.5 with 225/45 and they are stretched a little...

Scroll down to the picture of the gold SSR's picture really dosen't show it but they are and he will tell you make sure to get correct tire size...Ask Luke from Tire Rack what he thinks..

You might be able to get away with a 235/45 or 235/40 on that wheel depends on the offset I think wagons are different than sedans I could be wrong. I was looking at some 17x8 wheels for my STI I was going ot go with 235/45 after talking with the guys at Tire Rack. Suby dude has a video of a WRX with 245/40 tires on a 17x8 wheel...

Test fit & tell us how it goes! Some of us with wagons wante wider wheels and/or for our rides. The smallest suggestable tire on a 8.5in wheel is 225/45, but don't let that stop you - the biggest drawback is certain road rash, but that doesnt stop the drift guys & VW guys from putting 225s on 9in wheels!

BTW: Take & post pics of when you are mounting them!

225/45 it is then, guess I can have the fenders rolled if necessary. Will update with pics as soon as they're on the car.

IIRC you can run 225's with SSR competitions because they are a +50 offset for a WAGON, i'm running a 215 /45 on my 17x7.5 competitions because i bought them with tires already on the wheel... but can anyone shed some light on this? Luke?

On a Wagon? What wheels? Offset? What tires?

No they are on a sedan, I was speaking to the part about a 225 tire on 8" rim.
