Just a heads up...
If you're in the Bergen County area and shopping around for any audio or security products, stay away from "17 Sound & Cellular," on Rt. 17N (Ridgewood Ave. exit).
I was in the market for an alarm, and I had remembered passing by and seeing an STi parked there every now and then, so I decided to give it a try. Everything seemed somewhat kosher after talking to the guy for about half an hour, so I had them put in a Viper 7.
Well, when I come back to pick it up, I find out that the tech had installed it against the company's policy not to install remote start units into M/T cars. Says the tech, "It didn't even cross my mind that it was a stick." (Even though he had to drive the car from the front lot to the back of the building in order to begin working on it!) So now his boss wasn't letting him release the car to me, for fear that if something happens I'd sue the shop. Understandable.
However, that left me with the choice to either pull out the 7 and throw in some other remote start unit that doesn't kick in when the car's in gear, or downgrade to a non-remote start unit (or keep the 7 and disable the remote start module). So, I go with the latter.
While it should've only taken 20 minutes to disable remote start, I end up waiting there for over an hour. Furthermore, once he's done, I find that my TT is bugging out. After 15 minutes of trying to figure it out, it dawns on him that he had drained the battery while working on the car, and when he charged it back up it probably sent a surge to the TT, which was why it was powering up but not functioning properly.
Thankfully, when we unhooked the battery for 30 seconds then hooked it back up, it was fine. But the other thing I notice at that point was that the shop doesn't even have an indoor bay...GHETTO. Normally, that kind of thing wouldn't be the biggest deal to me, except for the fact that it was snowing all day, and the doors, hood and trunk were probably ajar the whole time (5-6 hours). So now my cabin smells like mildew, and to top it off, cigarette smoke.
So, for those of you who have read my ranting through this far, this is just a heads up. 17 SOUND & CELLULAR SUCKS. Don't pay them any of your $ for anything.
THE END

Do yourslef a favor and document this immediatley!
Mildew you cannot smell is bad for you, now imagine the kind you can! Not to mention they treated someone elses vehicle in a less than professional manner. Just imagine you get sick, you have to pay doctors bills, you want 17 Sound to pay and the judge says "sure, where's proof that the mildew was caused by 17's neglegence or malpractice?" It's a good thing you documented it on the BBB to cover your ***, if nothing it makes your case stronger. All of these things are points you should make to the BBB. I don't ever let any little **** go w/o documenting after learning my lesson early! Please do yourself a favor, even if it's as simple as sending an email. No one's gonna lose their livelyhood over it, they'll just be inspected until they do their job correctly. Everybody can use a little fire under their *** every once in a while.
Good luck.
