He left out an 'option' I think. What if the US withdrew completely from Iraq, but redeployed (maybe even with some upscaling) to Afganistan? It's even closer to Iran, and is actually a war we should be in in the first place. Find bin Laden, reform the Afgan gov't by force to prevent the harbor of terrorists, and still have military presence very close to Iran and in between Iran and most of the Shi'it people's in the region. It makes as much sense to me as upscaling IN Iraq as that guy suggests. Thoughts?

Based on the criteria of the options presented in the article I don't see why not. The only thing is we’d be on the wrong side of Iran and they could potentially block us from advancing. It would basically be the ground version of the Cold War.

-Train the Iraqi military to whatever degree with think is "good enough"
-Pull out of Iraq and allocate our forces in abundance to Afghanistan so some may act as a shield should Iran advance. Even half or those in Iraq would be an abundance. Give a chance for our forces to recover somewhat.

My solution would simply be leave your weapons, aircraft etc. where you stand with field manual on how to operate. Then hot foot it to the transport aircraft back home. Let these ****ers figure **** out on their own and vow to never give a **** about Israel or any other part of the middle east ever again. Then spend the next 100+ years apologizing to everyone… we’ll add it to slavery and the Indians.

Then put our 3/4 of our funds toward alternative energy sources while the other 1/4 goes toward figuring out how to get the newly discovered oil in the Gulf faster. I really don't know anymore... the more I think about it the more I realize how complex the situation has become and the more I really don't give a ****.

MVWRX, my thoughts exactly!!!! Not about pulling out of Iraq and not of strengthening forces in Afgh, but of poking Pakistan in the eye and just deploying a crapload of forces to the NW corner of Pakistan [where I'm most certain that Osama Bin ******** is hiding]. My thoughts are that given the current situation, the 'options' mentioned in that article ARE our only options. Where's that leave us? We have to change the situation.* We must deploy in force to the mountains of NW Paki, have our soldiers [figuratively] join hands and scour every inch of terrain. It's apparent that the affects of capturing their higher-ranking leaders DOES have a tremendous impact upon their resolve. If we cut off the snake's head (captured OBL), I am as certain as I've ever been that that would completely turn the tide in our favor. Not that Iran would give a crap, but it would certainly diminish their influence in the S of Iraq and throughout the Persian Gulf.

Anyone seen this? http://news.scotsman.com/internation...?id=1326542006

Political eyewash or a huge step in the right direction?

It's clear to me that at this point, victory (or at least an end to the fighting) will only come after a series of small victories. We can't expect to achieve our overall mission and intent, at this point, overnight.

Honestly, everything I've learned about him in briefings as well as from reading the newspaper, is no more than yourself. However, this article about him pretty much sums up why we have so much difficulty with pak...

[initially, I thought you were talking about someone else....which I can't talk about. There are so many Khan's over there and on our black/white/gray lists]

We constantly received reports from our folks working out of the embassy in Islamabad that their Army was claiming 20, 30, 40...confirmed AQ kills. Then, whenever we would do something 'outside' of our agreements with them, it was like the operations center I worked in was a hornets' nest that just got poked. It was a guarantee that if we were operating inside......uh, I mean outside of their comfort zone, they would most certainly lodge a complaint.

If there are any Paki i-club members, I apologize (though I'm not talking about Pakistani people; only the reigning gov't)....but they are completely two-faced.
