From you, where you stated, "Bottom line from my doctor was: HPV is a non-issue >99% of the time."

The point is that many people try to minimalize the importance of avoiding all STDs, as each one is associated with different, yet serious risks. The recent rebound in HIV rates was attributed to attitudes about the improving treatment options. Not including HIV, common STDs may cause brain swelling, infertilitly, muscular pain, cancer, etc.

The "everybody is doing it" and "everybody has it" is the excuse of those who have diseases. Period.

Non issue >99% of the time does not mean 1 in 100 women will have a chance of developing cervical cancer. Less than 1% of the time there may be visible warts or an abnormal pap smear. In most cases, an abnormal pap smear does not lead to cancer, even if it goes untreated.
Trying to equate AIDS with HPV is like equating terminal cancer with a pimple...seriously, nearly every human adult has one or many forms of HPV on their skin as do many children.

Yeah, so are you suggesting that getting a pap smear is a waste of time? Would you suggest that your female family members skip it?

From what you say, HPV is no big deal. So what if you get warts in your mouth by simply going down on a chick? Everybody has it! Nice perspective.
Heck, with that additude, there's really no reason not to just pull-out! You know, that good ol' coitis interruptus... or whatever.

"French tickler? Heck-no baby, them's warts!!!!!"

The strain of hpv which causes warts on one's mouth does not cause warts on genitals or fingers or feet...and if you read my earlier post you may have noticed that I specifically mentioned the importance of regular pap smears. I give up, I'm putting you back on my ignore list as you're incapable of rational discussion.

I laughed after the beginning of this thred until I read the post about wishing death on somebody's wife.

That ish aint cool. If you want to live in Montana and make love to your rifle in the woods with your gazillion whacko children, go for it. This is a free country. Remember that. FREE. We are free to think about politics, free to question our government, and free to choose any or no religion.

Not true. You can get warts in your mouth from genital warts. Guess you have to learn the hard way

Nobody wishes death on anyone's wife. The comment was meant to highlight the seriousness of the topic, and I think it worked. Many women die each year from cancer and cirvical cancer is no laughing matter. The risk is apparently high enough that every woman on the planet should get a regular pap test.

it sickens me to see how they have held control over our American society.

May you burn slowly...

Yeah, it'd be way better if our society and gov't was more open minded like China, Russia, etc. Let's all pack our bags. Tell you what, you go first and tell me how you like it.

Aids cases on the rise in gay and bisexual men, thanks to a lack of puritan values.

...or a lack of knowledge to have safe sex. And how will they get this knowledge if BushJr insists that we teach abstinance and downplay the use of condoms? They won't...so the number of cases will rise even more.

There's a reason puritans aren't around anymore...they couldn't adapt and survive in the modern world. The desire to return to a less enlightened, more archaic time is the attribute of a person who is affraid of everthing and everyone around them caused by an innate disgust of themselves. Yes, hella, I think you hate yourself.

Do you honestly believe that? You are just pretending, right?

Believe what? That Bush would rather not have kids taught about condoms, yes I believe that because that's what it says in the article in the first post of this thread. Do I believe that the reason AIDS is on the rise is because of a lack of education and information on the disease itself and on how to prevent it? Yes. Of course most people know they're 'supposed' to use condoms...but they don't know exactly how HIV is transmitted, what it does to your body's immune system, etc.
One thing I KNOW (as opposed to believe) is that AIDS is NOT on the rise because of a 'lack of puritanical values'.

Are we talking about the U.S., where Bush can have more influence on domestic social values, or are we talking about areas where rape most often spreads the disease?

Of course it is ludicrous to ignore the importance of STD prevention via condoms, but behavioral change that results in more abstincance should be the goal. For those who do have sex, it should be practiced in the safest manner.
