Uh...I've heard a ****load of Muslims decry and denounce the violence that is going on in the name of Islam. In fact MOST Muslims DO denounce the violence...you knew that, because you have said in the past that that isn't enough...

I've been saying this a long time now. But this further proves my points that Islam is not the religion of hate. Just like Christianity is not the religion of peace.

 

I don't think anyone suggested that Christianity was the religion of peace. I think everyone everywhere realizes that Christianity is not infallible in this respect. History has proven Christianities faults. I know that religion does not restrict what people are capable of doing. For example, I could be born again, get baptized the next day, and then go on an a Muslim killing spree.

Furthermore, we all know that many Muslims are peaceful. It doesn't change the fact that there's a high degree of contractual violence in the Quran and some direct violence in certain haddith, but still, a lot of Muslims are not violent or hate filled. Nobody ever said ALL Muslims are hateful. At least I never did. A lot are.

But there's no denying the degree of hatred between the two and everyone here knows it. A group of young people that goes out to retaliate against Muslims that are known to have killed numerous Christians in that particular area only puts a slight dent in the Radical Islamic timeline. I would go so far to refer to it as a blemish on the grand scale of Muslim hatred. Although I think what these people did is wrong, let's not forget what's been happening with this ordeal since January 30th! January 30th!!!!!

Doesn't mean one is more right than the other. But you guys make it seem like your point is somehow settling the score for Islam!

But let me don my liberal hat: there is such deep disdain between these groups in Africa that I think it is less about religion than it is an example of what happens when you have people living in a destitute country with corrupt governments, unable to provide for their families because they've been hog-tied by the World Bank and IMF.

Having Dub post in here makes this thread a PERFECT example of what I'm talking about. He's the perfect counterpart to Muslims who do NOT condone violence but beleive that the world is giving the Muslim community as a whole a bad rap.

But when someone takes the stance like this only from the Muslim perspective, they get lambasted for not stopping the rest of their religion, and for defending their religion at all.

All I am trying to express in this thread is the fact that BOTH religions are on exactly equall playing ground. Neither is 'better', 'more peaceful' or 'less deadly'. They are equally flawed and wrong in their inherant makeup, because they use the salvation of a single person (the promise of heaven) to reward actions that may or may not be (and usually are not) good for the human race.
