I have seen plenty of instances where professors were flat out wrong on FACTS (mostly in business classes) and would not admit it. Calculations that were flat out wrong or things straight out of the book. Just because they are educators doesn't mean I should take what they say as gospel.
Here is a poor example - before I switched to business, I was in my third year of art school just before Jr. portfolio review. One of my professors contradicted himself on one of my projects. Took the time to point out to the class how good it was and commended my process. Gave me some direction on how he wanted me to proceed.
Then he decided the next day that it was crap. I called him on it. He said, "I never said that". Other people in the class called him on it. He told us not to question what he said. He said he didn't care if he contradicted himself. He told me flat out in front of the whole class that he would not let the other professors let me pass Jr. portfolio review. Guess what? I didn't pass review. I had other classmates tell me that my portfolio was WAY better than others that were allowed to pass.
I went to the Dean of my department with other students to back me up. He told me the same thing. Do not question your professors.

Right on. (irrational x) Why the switch?? I switched from econ, to poly sci. cause I was sick and tired of the professors not using their own economic philosophies for businesses or policy they themselves did not want. (i.e. solar v. nuclear power...) (true cost economics)
In colorado, where I went to school the young republicans tried to pass the "students bill of right" Which made all professors in the state declare their political allegiances. Then the state would have to have one democrat for every republican. These student were mad that they were criticized for their political viewpoints. But in my experience, these students could make a valid argument to save their lives. I was ripped on by the professors just as much as they were, but this helped me grow as an intellectual. If you want to slap yourself on the back, then DO NOT GO TO COLLEGE! Cause thats the point of an education, to challenge your assumptions about the world. To grow your philosophies and opinions into concrete arguments, if you cant then they aren't.

<---- BSME.
I really enjoyed arguing with my uber liberal "professors" at CSUS.
I was asked not to return to my ethnic studies class.
Democrats/Socialists are evil.
Rewarding bad behaviour is criminal.
WTF is this all about:
Wireless Welfare: Poor People In Colorado To Get Taxpayer Subsidized Cell Phones
Why not have a regressive tax system...the less money you make, the higher your tax bill.
This would motivate deadbeats to try/work harder and succeed.

Political opinions by college professors are rarely any better than that the average person on the street. The reason being is that there's typically nothing that can be done or said to change that person's mind. Meaning people just pick a political direction and run with it never looking back. The more you talk to them about it, the more entrenched they become in their viewpoint. It's like herding cats, they hear you, but they'll never listen.

No it wouldn't. Deadbeats are deadbeats because they work very hard at not doing any work. Put up another wall, they'll find a way around it, over it, under it, and through it in a short time.
