You mean the chair force..
How many medals did Jr. get during his service, since they just hand them out?

You receive the Bronze Star for staying on the objective and directing fire toward a target while being in harms way -or- something similar at the bare minimum (without “V” device). You earn the “V” device on the BS when your acts of valor weren’t quite warranted for the Silver Star.
Lynch should have received an ARCOM with "V" device at the very most because she was heroic and strong enough not to die in the ambush.

I thouht a silver star was given only once you earned 5 bronze/gold stars (in USMC/Navy/CG). Equivalent to a gold oak leaf for getting 5 bronze oak leafs (which each are equivalent to a bronze star) in the Army/AF. And I thought the V on a Bronze star was the most you could get at one time (in respect to this honor). In other words, a silver star cannot be given for one particular act. Am I misinformed Salty? I'd like to get my facts straight...

The devices you mentioned are for multiple awards not for the medal itself. Bronze star is a medal on its own. Silver Star a medal on its own. The devices you mentioned are afixed to the the suspesion ribbon of the medal "in liue of _____ award" Once again the V is for valor, requiring combat, neither medal is exclusive for combat, you may recieve either of the above mentioned medals for meritorious service also.
Please on this election think for yourself, if this is a question of service then look to those who have served honorably , whose service and behavior during service was in fact honorable.
I spent over ten years in the Marine Corps, and medals may be as some say handed out... but realistically they are earned.

haha, no...
Awards of Valor -or- those that hold the "V" device (Commendation, Air Medal ,Bronze Star etc.) must be given in war time against the enemy. However, the commendation can be given in peace time without the "V" device.
Each medal of valor has a specific criteria from shooting an enemy vehicle from a distance to Superman type feats that come with the Medal of Honor like destroying an entire enemy front with the multiple gunshot wounds and a missing leg.
There are also awards for heroism that are only given in peacetime. For example, the Soldiers medal which would be given for saving a child from a fast river at a Sunday BBQ while losing your own life etc. This is a different thing though...
Here are the criteria in order of combat awards of valor... Not all awards of valor and gallantry can be given the "V" device because you've already met the criteria for Valor with the award itself. Clusters are given for additional awards of the same type of medal.
