Somebody inform me on the Bush economic plan
I thought I'd try and get our attention off the war in the middle east for a while, and also try and figure out from those more knowledgable than I some more about the econmics of this administration:
I've been looking and looking and I still can't quite figure out what the hell the Bush administration (and certin members of congress: both parties) think they are doing to the economy. Though in social issues I am very liberal, I am a "old school" republican economics believer: you know, tax less spend less.
The more and more I look at the Bush administration tax and spending plan the more I get dumbfounded. We are lowering taxes by a great amount with the last two tax cuts, and at the same time we are trying to fund a war, reform Medicare, reform social security, homeland security, and add to that the gross amounts of pork that is being shoved down our throats. I fully support tax cuts in times of peace, and when spending is reduced, as this has every time untill this one helped the economy grow. However, (though I may be mis-informed) the last tax cut, and with the great increase in government size and spending to me seems completely irresponsible. In my mind, when you cut taxes you must also cut spending, or at least keep it growing only at a manageable pace. Furthermore, with a deficit so huge how are we expected to reduce it?
I would love a tax cut as much as everyone else, and many friends/family benifit a lot by the cuts, but to me it simply does not seem responsible at this point. Though for me I hate to see my money go away more, it seems like the more resoponsible thing to do would be to actually *gasp* raise taxes, even though it is hard to swallow. I look forward to hearing peoples thoughts.
