Pretty much.
The main difference in this thread is that we (USA) obviously have an interest in Iraq as opposed to Sudan. Whatever the interest may be is open for speculation all day long and doesn't matter for this thread. These interests are what separate us from playing world police in Iraq (interests that benefit us and the Iraqis) as opposed to a one-sided deal in Africa.
Who knows though. The population in parts of Sudan are great with a high Muslim concentration. It's pretty much like Iran on a thinner wire. I mean who thinks that if we went to Sudan we'd be welcome?

Looks like we're back in Africa now.

They'll strap the marines to the sides of the boats and fill the inside full of oil, scoob. As long as we're they are there to kill badguys and not to supposedly restore peace, ease the suffering, or any of that other non-warrior related BS that didn't work before.... *sigh*

Are you suggesting [sarcastically] that they won't accept our help because we're after oil they don't have? [a fact we've already agreed upon] I don't get the boats filled with oil part though...
I don't completely comprehend your reasoning, so at least try to use complete sentences... I don't speak Bush-ese

So, I'll admit this is a good step, and it definitely can't be mistaken for us going after commercial interests abroad... so how about Sudan?

Not entirely true, the President can send out the force for how long without needing approval from congress?

And if they know terrorist are hiding in the area they'll go in with more troops. I know the numbers are ridiculously low now but that’s what reconnoitering is for.
Nobody has answered my question on if Sudan would even want us or the UN there? The majority said the same thing about Somalia and we eventually pulled out our peacekeepers.
Why is this even a topic of discussion anymore? We've agreed that this is a UN problem now, so.... ? That said, I'd like to point out how nobody answered my suggestion regarding France way back on page 1 of this thread. Or any other capable country within arms reach.
I mean if we've agreed on the fact there's no interests for anyone to go into the country besides crimes against humanity, then every other capable country is guilty of the same selfish things, right?

but does that remove our need to go there? i dont care if France is guilty of not going. Im not ****ing French. I am an American, and live in one of the greatest countries in the world.
The problem is, our govt is notorious for turning our backs to people in need. And as I mentioned, we loose our intl credibility when we vilify despots and the like.
Re: Sudan... if the Sudanese govt is allowing this and doesnt want us there, screw em. We need to get people in there--be it through NATO / UN / some of our own--to stop this genocide.
And lastly, why is this a topic of discussion? Come on man. You are not the do all and end all. This is a topic of discussion because thousands upon thousands of people are innocently dying as we go on as if nothing is happening. This is a politics discussion forum and we are discussing politics.

Do y'all really give a **** about what's happening in Sudan?
Islamic terrorists are doing what they seem good at...killing others simply because they don't pray to Allah.
Why is it that the UN is doing nothing?
The argument that the US isn't doing more on account of no oil can just as easily be used against the UN, Koffee Cup Anan & son.
Really...do you care?

I mean if it took a lie from the Bush administration on Iraq's "certain possession" of WMDs and a somewhat weak terrorist connection to put our left foot forward then why couldn't we have gone to Iraq on the same pretenses as you mention for Sudan? Am I to believe that the left would have approved a war if we went solely on those pretenses with a Republican President from Texas? No way! Not when people like scoobsport think we're going for oil. And certainly not while Moore's showing footage of Iraqi children flying kites in the park. And then to top it all off there's a handful of debatable and firm interests for us and the Iraqis to make it that much more justifiable. I just don't get it!
But now you want to goto Sudan to do the exact same thing we did to Saddam and the Baathists? Except this time there's no other interest other than humanity. I hate to say it but wars are not fought when there's one side to the coin. I'd love for this to be false but this is exactly why it's a UN issue and not the USA being the goodguy for the twentieth time.
